I truly hope this is the case. I have been watching the past commentaries of Service Rivalrys going and I must chime in.
First and Foremost I believe the Marines are the best ... at what they do. I am glad that we have a force that takes an inordinate amount of pride in itself and is steep in its' traditions as the Marines are. I am glad that you and your brother Marines have so vehemently defend your beloved Corps, it is this fighting spirit that I want in the Marines defending my Nation and my way of Life. There is nothing more out of place than a gun-ho Marine in times of Peace. It would be my prayer that we would never have to call on our finest, but if called upon I am confident in thier ability and readiness to accomplish any mission.

Jim, I appreciate those words very much. I even had to forward those words to some Marine buddies of mine. You said the important thing very well....we're the best at what we do. We don't do surgery, drive submarines or perform root canals. We're warfighters. It's in the ethos of the Marine Corps.
A good friend and myself were celebrating the Corps birthday last night (complete with a cake cutting ceremony, reading of the Commandants Birthday Message, and The Marines' Hymn), and I realized that we're the only people that go through such effort to remember the tradition and hold on to it so dearly. Some may make fun of that, but I'm pretty proud of it - and so is the Corps.
For all of you that sent Birthday wishes, thank you. It's more than just another day to me...

Thank you as well. I had the colors flying at dawn. People who do not understand must have thought to themselves "why is the Marine Corps flag posted? It isn't even veterans day."
Pride and honor is why the colors were posted. Of course today I had the stars and stripes waving in the breeze.
One friend called me at 0830 to wish me a happy b-day and I returned the salute. I then proceeded to call another of our brothers and gave him the birthday greeting.
These same two individuals shared two birthdays with me where I was able to have a cake with the EGA elegantly designed on top.
