Hallelujah and the beer is on me

When it rains it pours.

After hundreds upon hundreds of hours and hundreds of inquiries and e-mails and resumes sent, just today I got the call for my first interview. As I was on the phone, another call came in to schedule an interview. Several hours before that first call I made a follow-up call and was given a time for my interview. That's 3 prospects that look very favorable. Two are pilot positions, the other is non-crew position but very closely related to aviation.

Sorry, until I secure the position I will not be sharing company information. Please respect my decision.

Curiously, instead of having to put a disclaimer at the end of your post that can come off as pretty negative and selfish, depending on how people interperet it. Why not just not post anything at all until you find out one way or the other?

Good point. Irrational exhuberance is a powerful propellant.

My motivation for the disclaimer is that I'm tired of being beat out by other applicants.* I'm keenly aware I am not the only one experiencing this frustration. These prospects are the results of leads I've developed. The reality is I am not in the position to give them away to my detriment. When times are better I would surely be more free with any information and leads I come across. I hardly imagine anyone else in the same position would not act in a similar manner. All I need is ONE job. Having secured that I will have no hesitation to share in whatever manner I can be helpful. Think of it as putting on YOUR O2 mask first before coming to the aid of another.

*By "beat out", I mean literally mere hours. It's not necessarily being beat out by more qualified applicants, often it's even less qualified applicants being selected for the position. This phenomena occurs when there are so many people looking and willing to accept anything. By and large, an employer is not apt to hold out for a better qualified applicant. They need to hire within their timeline.

I know exactly how you feel... and I can totally relate to not giving out any info until your hand of cards is played out. Good luck and I hope you get offered all three jobs.... such a problem is a good one to have nowadays!

No small achievement in today's economy. Good luck!

Thank you. Actually, the non-flying position appears the most attractive. Very good pay, location, and the job itself all make me giddy.

That's what I was thinking.

Would have just been better with out it! Then if anyone asked, you don't have to tell them, but the beforehand disclaimer was a bit too much. Of course this is IMO...

Oh yeah and congrats! Hope whichever one you like best works out for you!

Damned if I do, damned if I don't. The disclaimer was a proactive attempt to dispel inquires of who the companies are. I think you are right, the disclaimer in my original post is viewed by most as a negative.

Just put me down as your Uncle Fester with poor social skills.

I know you didn't mean any harm, it was just a bit aggressive and conceited. Good luck with the interviews! :)

You can't please all of the people, all of the time. Sometimes you just want to express your joy of having some potential choices. I for one don't blame you for not wanting to let the "very small percentage of potential sabateurs" burst the employment baloon.

In a subnote, CJRDriver is/should be a JC hero. Selflessly posting potential jobs is very horourable. Thanks and I too may owe you one soon. Beers all around ...

Good luck? Can you at least say what type of jobs are hiring (CFI, charter, etc)? Always interesting to see what segments of the industry are doing hiring wise.
