Hawthorne Global Aviation Services Ronkonkoma, New York:<BR />Pilot in Command - reports directly to the Chief Pilot and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of company aircraft while in compliance with all applicable regulations, rules, directives, company procedures and aircraft flight manuals. The Pilot in Command&#8217;s leadership, dedication, professionalism, decision making abilities and safety awareness are crucial qualities necessary to ensure the utmost service to ExcelAire&#8217;s clients and help ensure successful mission accomplishment. As the aircraft commander, the Pilot in Command is responsible for the safety, supervision, and coordination of flight crew activities from the planning phase through the completion of the company trip. The Pilot in Command is ultimately responsible for the well-being of passengers, crew and aircraft. The Pilot in Command performs additional company duties as assigned.<br /><strong><br />Primary Responsibilities</strong><br /><strong><br />Ensures that the following pre-flight duties are conducted:</strong><br /><ul><li>Maintains currency in the aircraft and ensures recurrent tests are accomplished on or before the required time period.Complies with duty time limitations and is adequately rested</li><li>Initial and recurrent pilot tests (135.293)</li><li>Instrument check every six months (135.297)</li><li>Line check every 12 calendar months (135.299)</li><li>Coordinates with Operations and plans the flight assignment. Obtains a weather briefing through a FSS or a source approved by the National Weather Service. The briefing will include a review of the current and forecast weather, PIREPS, winds aloft, flight precautions, SIGMETs, AIRMETs, NOTAMs, and ATC delay programs.</li><li>Prepares or supervises preparation of flight planning considering factors such as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities, navigational aids and fuel requirements. Ensures that the proposed flight will not be contrary to FAR&#8217;s.</li><li>Ensures that the required company forms are accessible to the flight deck crewmember.</li><li>Ensures that the required airworthiness inspections have been made and that the aircraft had been approved for return to service (see Section 5).</li><li>Performs the required preflight inspection for mechanical and operational soundness: ensures that all communication and navigation equipment is functional.</li><li>Ensures that all required equipment is on board in accordance with the procedures in Chapter 4.</li><li>Supervises the loading and distribution of cargo: determines that the weight and balance are within the prescribed limits and completes the load manifest if required in accordance with company procedures.</li><li>Ensures that his aeronautical charts are current and appropriate to the route of flight.</li></ul><strong>The PIC will ensure that the following flight duties are performed:</strong><br /><ul><li>All doors are properly closed prior to departure and door warning lights or systems function properly.</li><li>Passengers are briefed and baggage is stowed for takeoff and landing.</li><li>All cockpit checks are performed in accordance with AFM Procedures.</li><li>Departure, en route, and approach briefings are conducted. He ensures that altitude call-outs are preformed at 1,000, 500 and 200 feet above the DH, or MDA as applicable.</li><li>Opens and closes flight plans.</li><li>Coordinates with Operations Director or Chief Pilot regarding any change to the trip itinerary.</li><li>Provides competent airmanship necessary to ensure safety, passenger comfort and convenience, and on time departure and arrival.</li></ul><strong>Ensures that the following post-flight duties are performed:</strong><br /><ul><li>The preparation of flight logs and reporting of mechanical irregularities is performed.</li><li>Performs a post-flight inspection on the aircraft.</li><li>Engages all control locks and ensures that the aircraft is properly locked, secured, and tied-down.</li><li>Supervises the towing or storage of company aircraft while away from the home base.</li><li>Maintenance personnel record maintenance related actions while away from home base.</li><li>Updates the flight and duty time record and determines his eligibility for the next flight assignment.</li><li>Reports, required to the sent to the FAA, are submitted to the Chief Pilot for mailing.</li><li>May delegate functions but retains the responsibility.</li><li>Ensures the well-being of the crew and aircraft while on layovers.</li></ul><strong>General</strong><br /><ul><li>Interact with others in a professional and respectful manner</li><li>Follow up with other company departments and employees</li><li>Recommend process and communication improvements</li><li>Regular and prompt attendance</li></ul><strong> Additional Responsibilities</strong><br /><ul><li>On-call and overtime duties as required</li><li>On the job training for new employees</li><li>Miscellaneous other duties as assigned</li></ul>
