Ground Resonance Video

Not a common occurance, but one that will have disasterous effects if not taken care of. Good thing is, it's fairly easy to take care of, at least before any major damage is done. Otherwise, the craft will tear itself apart.

Can occur throughout the RPM band and is due to a shock to the system, such as a hard landing, that throws the rotor system out of balance, beyond the ability of normal dampening systems to compensate for.

If I remember correctly, we had to taxi the T-6 below a certain percent torque due to ground resonance. Prolly a little different for a helo but still interesting.

I can't remember the exact number, but there was a restriction on the T-6. My IP's always made me verbalize the guage reading when doing the power checks in the hammerhead.

What is the corrective action for that?

Pick it back up into a hover, put everything back in balance instantly (pending no damage already). If at a low RPM, immediate shutdown and rotor brake, if installed.

I want to say it was 60 something but can't remember exactly.... ah the good ol' days.

Looks like kaudbron remembers. It is interesting when you start realizing just how many numbers you have floating around in your head...and how many have fallen off your mental plate onto the abysmal tablecloth.

Last T-6 was +3 weeks ago and already brain dumped it, had to verify on a ops limits that hasn't made it into the fire pit yet...

Congrats on finishing up T-6's! I remember my last flight in it very well. Formation checked in the morning and flew a partial low-level route in the afternoon. Best part was when my IP climbed off the route into the MOA and told me, "You have 15 minutes of no threat playtime, your controls."

What did you track?

Thanks, tracking Tones, expected being a Guard guy. My last was form check, but the flt before that was great... app. end break, slighty fast. We had one get Rucker, I know a few more wanted it but I'm happy for my bro who did.
