A quick update from the new-hire training world. Indoc is now completed and I've started ground school for the ERJ. So far a really good company and a good group of folks in the class. Have gotten to ride the jumpseat a couple times so I've got an idea what I'm learning in class. Looks like IOE will be in early June and by mid-June I'll be hitting the line!

Will continue to post updates when able.

Thanks for the update, Russ!! We've been wondering how things are going up there!!! Keep up the good work!

Good to hear from ya! Glad class is going well

Good deal, buddy! Glad you're doing well and I look forward to saying congrats when you hit the line for the first time!

When you get to flying those big simulators, just remember, no matter what the instructor says, they don't land like the real plane. I remember being very frustrated with my landings in the sim, the sight picture, and my overcontrolling. When I got to the real plane, things were much easier and more natural.

I can't land a sim to save my life. The picture in the sim and the picture in the actual aircraft, at least to me, differ greatly, especially in crosswinds. The -88 simulator needs A LOT of rudder play, whereas in the real aircraft, just a light pressure is enough.

Congrats FL270!

Study Hard but don't forget to sleep enough - don't make my mistake in new hire training - don't stay up all night long. Missing simple questions on the tests didn't help at all !!!

Happy for you!

Spend Friday or Saturday night relaxing with a brew. I did this almost every Friday night while in new hire training, just chilling with a few friends taking it easy. You don't know how much it helped to keep me from getting fried. Slept in on Saturday, did some chores or hopped on the computer, then started studying in the afternoon. I figured those hours spent relaxing and freeing my mind were worth more than the hours with my nose in the books.

Sweet Russ, I was just about to go and call you and see how things are going with CHQ!

Keep us updated!

Thanks all for the well-wishes and words of wisdom. Will endeavor to put all the advice to good use.

I'm a couple weeks from the sim yet ... currently in the midst of systems ... powerplants today (the FADEC does everything except put cream in my coffee). Systems lasts until the middle of next week, then a written final on that. Three days of CPTs, then a couple days off before hitting the sim for ten sessions total ... eight training sessions, the PC ride, and a LOFT. Also early in the sim period will do my systems/limitations oral. This is all scheduled to wrap up by early June, after which I'll hit the line for IOE. No word yet on crew bases ... we're supposed to find out during sim training.

There are 22 in my class, a good mix of folks in both age and background. 21 guys, one girl. Seniority at CHQ is by age within a class ... I am number 15 of 22 in class at age 26 ... the most junior guy is 22.

Will continue to post updates as time permits.

Russ

you dont have a fellow named conrad in yor class do you...a cool guy from jamaica....was my instructor and was hired a couple months ago by chq...not sure of his class date though.

Hi Russ
Now that you are "graduating" to the jet world we are going to have to promote you and change your screen name to a higher flight level ... how about FL350. ( what is the max altitude for the ERJ ? )

BTW: Stop giving up the secrets of how easy jets are to fly, remeber you got a college degree so that you could fly them.

Go get em ...

Jim

No Conrad in class, t7 ... sorry. Might've been in an earlier class than mine though.

Jim, I might have to bump myself up ... hadn't thought that far ahead yet. Perhaps I'll have to become FL370 now ... that's our max alt.

And YES, Jim, I will be one of those guys you are complaining about having to slow down to .78 for going in to Florida!!

Russ
