This is the 3rd time in the past week I have been weathered! UND sure is candy ass as far as no flys go. . . :banghead:

I've been trying for two months to do my cfi ride...11 reschedules later...still don't have it...ALL b/c of weather, this has been unusually crappy in Chicago the last two months

Yeah I know ND after all lol. I just want to get up there soon.

I can only imagine how much fun it will be, as soon as I start moving towards this dream :bandit:

But, that's VFR...

Lol, the mist is the only thing that could get ya there (if its sticky mist). I don't think there's much better of a learning experience than driving around in the whiteout to teach newly minted private pilots just why they need that silly instrument rating...

The problem comes in teaching a student pilot how to keep the wings level when your scan is going crazy inside outside inside outside check the chart and moving map for the towers, oh crap was that an airplane? Keep away from the final approach corridor....

That was one thing that drove me nuts about flight instructing-cancelling when the weather was flyable for me to go point to point, but not productive for a student working on maneuvers.

Certainly true. That said, that first cross country flying up to PATK from Z41 in crap weather with my instructor is what made me want to be a pilot for a living.

I know our students are going crazy and slightly PO'd, but cancelling or doing ground is really the better option.

Why would you want to push it?

If we were talking about something of consequence that had to happen on that flight, I can see it.

Unfortunately, a training flight doesn't count.

The weather is one of those things where being a "candy ass" doesn't count against you unless people are going to die if you *don't* fly.

Weather may be bad, but at least you guys don't have lake effect snow. It's almost impossible to fly in Michigan this time of year, unless you have a plane equipped for icing.

Finally got to go up today after being weathered 3 times.

It was so cold during the preflight and both engines wouldn't start up so I had to wait for a preheat.

Oh well, here is to hoping my tomorrow morning flight will be less windy and warmer!

Anyone go out in the blizzard on Monday? I had to go snowplow my work's parking lot because of all the snow drifts and I went down the road to a small alley to get one of my friends unstuck in a 4x4 Dodge with a Plow. I realized there was a huge snow drift ahead of me it was not passable So I tryed to turnaround in the alley with lots of parked cars aound and I ended up backing into a huge drift and getting stuck....for TWO hours, at least I was getting paid.

I did my Muti IFR currency ride in Winnipeg on sunday... Nothing like IMC weather, in a plane that you have only .7hours in... on a checkride... The CFI was chills tho, was all over the place on the non-precision single engine, but he overlooked that.

Now... Back to 221 at GFK and the UND bubble... :cwm27:

I didn't mean to set that vibe across. I have a deep passion for this and have been waiting for a long time to start working towards my PPL and anxious to start, that is all.

3 here as well. I have a flight scheduled for Saturday so I am crossing my fingers.

Saturday, is looking good so far, so I'll tip a Schmidt to good weather this weekend!

Grand Forks weather isn't really that bad (as flying weather is concerned) compared to the most of the USA. The extremely cold temperatures in the dead of winter usually brings clear and sunny weather and the summers are always nice, other than the occasional thunderstorms (which aren't as bad as the rest of the midwest). October and November when the temperature is around 20-35 is when the weather is not so good for flying... including a lot of spring days.

If you complain about getting weathered just look at the weather in the Northeastern part of the US. THAT is bad weather. Gusty winds, turbulence, icing, snow, and cumulonimbus all at the same time!

Now, if you want the best weather in the USA come to San Diego. ;)

This is a revelation of your aviation career, slow and trying to keep up with the rest of the crowd, you need to go to another university where the weather is more forgiving.
