www.Fltplan.com is the best FREE service I've come across. It's really good. I use it for every flight plan I file. Only bummer is, I can't use it for International stuff.

I use that one also, works great and its free! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just put Golden Eagle software on my laptop about 2 weeks ago, and I've been using it on the road pretty regularly - it's pretty good, way better than the old Cirrus. It's got a few little bugs and quirks, but it's the "1.0" version so I hope that stuff will be fixed.

I think I'll try FLTPLAN.com too - it looks sweet.

BUT the chief advantage with Golden Eagle is that it doesn't need an internet connection to get data - you can use the DUATS 800 number which means that you can use it when your internet is down (a nice backup), or when you are in a podunk FBO or hotel room. Plus it gives you "official" DUATS weather. I give it 2 thumbs up, overall.

Likin the avatar Brian! which airport is it?

Thanks Kristie /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif It is Boca Raton Airport in FL (KBCT). Since I'm moving to Boca Raton in 3 weeks I will start my serious flight lessons there and hopefully get a instructor job there also. They have lots of corporate aviation there so I might start to build connections from the beggining.

I fly into BCT all the time with my students on XC's. The girls that work there are really cute, oh and nice too. For an FBO (Boca Aviation) with lots of jet customers, they treat us recip. peons pretty well. Some FBO's dont even notice when you walk in the door, unless you've parked a G-IV out front. Great service with a friendly smile!

Brian, you need a new photo...I don't see the new tower!

Bah....it's all about DUATS, baby. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm starting to use the Golden Eagle application from FlightPrep, but I noticed something strange. I'll create a route and then click on flight planner and connect to DUATS to get a briefing. Then, when I compare the nav log from DUATS to the nav log created by GE internally, the magnetic courses and winds don't match up.

For example, on the V44 airway from SAM to ABB, DUATS gave a MC of 083 with winds of 351@9 while GE gave a MC of 087 with winds of 010@6. Why? I double-checked to make sure I was using the same altitudes and time and that the current wind information was downloaded to GE. By the way, 083 is the radial listed on the IFR chart for this airway, but why the 087 with GE?
