Government contract pilots

What are some companies that do goverment contracting work oconus. I know of a couple but I'm sure there are some I don't know about and would like to try and apply to.

They are very particular in what they are looking for. What are your times? Any military experience and a clearance?

Some big hitters are:
L3
MAG
Sierra Nevada Corp
Dynamic

There are quite a few more.

I was a black hawk crew chief top secret clearance. Been deployed several times. Now I have a little more than a thousand hrs and around 600 turbine. Not sure how hard their numbers are but I would try anyway. If nothing else I can try later when my hours are higher.

You can also be a sensor/system operator and get to know the flying side.

Look at "Technical representative" at Sierra Nevada Corporation.

Try dynamic first, in the past they have hired low-timers into the king airs.

Your military background clears the biggest hurdle for you.

Dynamic shows Kingair mins on their website as 1000 PIC and 300 Turbine. Worth a shot if you have those hours.

In the process now...

Right now is a good time to apply to these types of jobs, even if you don't have exactly what they say they're looking for In their job listing. As more of their pilots leave for other jobs they become more flexible with what they're looking for and will consider what you have to offer.

My advice is find someone you know at one of these companies and have them help your resume get looked at by the chief pilot. Barring that look at openings and apply at the following:

L-3
Dynamic
MAG
CACI
Commuter Air Technology
Dyncorp
Avenge
AAR

Some pay more than others and some are more flexible than others but if you shotgun apps out to all of the programs at those places you'll have a chance at getting a call from of them, even if it's as part of an SIC only program.

I've been looking at some of these listings and I'm interested but don't have near the time/experience they're looking for. Do they have any "First Officer", or entry level positions for people who want to do this?

If not, would being a veteran with a TS help..?

I don't know of any with a "FO" program. Most of the time requirements are contractual and established by the government instead of the company itself. Most of the companies love to bring in veterans especially with your own TS, but its harder to do when you don't meet the required hours.

If you get an interview, perhaps you could ask about doing some state side testing etc to get some hours built up.

How much of that is multi? L-3 just dropped their hours again and is also looking for maintainers.

MAG is hungry for guys now that L-3 bumped up their pay to stop their guys from leaving.

Those planes don't really hang out stateside unless they're being built/ Moded. You won't get an interview unless they want to hire you it's usually just to see it your a right fit for the program. If you get the call the job is yours to lose.

Avenge has an SIC program

I have a buddy who was on the border of L-3s mins and applied to the L-3 Program and Avenge SIC and got picked up by L-3. Drastic pay difference between an L-3 PIC and an Avenge intro SIC.

Thanks man! I'll keep that in mind.

What's the deal with King Air SIC time? Is that loggable as SIC time? I know it's a bit of a topic for debate but I had heard that if the aircraft can be configured for single pilot operations, it's not loggable. Not sure if that was just "FUD".

BE-300s are single piloted but the contractors fly them SIC required It's a limitation on most of the type ratings issued to the MC-12/ King Air 350 pilots headed down range, so as long as you're flying the MC-12/ King Air 350 you can log SIC.
