Got my special issuance, waiting on letter from FAA

In April my medical was reissued. My original post regarding the issue is here. It has been 4 months and I am still waiting for my letter from the FAA about my medical.

A friend of mine also has a special issuance medical and his letter states he is required to have the letter in his possession at all times.

My questions are:

Is 4 months a typical amount of time to wait for the letter from the FAA after being issued a special?

Also if I were to get ramped and I do not have the letter in my possession because I have not received it yet would that be a potential problem?

I've asked my AME to contact the FAA to see what the hold up is and he has not been able to find out any details.

Im trying to get this addressed sooner rather than later. I don't want to get the letter and find out that I need to have who knows what procedures before getting the medical renewed with little time to take care of them.

Thanks

By "got my special issuance" do you mean you did all of the tests and submitted them to the FAA?

Yes I completed everything required by the FAA and my AME issued me my medical in April.

My AME said I should receive a letter within a few weeks detailing the issuance and requirements for future issuances.
