The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company currently has an opening for an Airship Electronics Technician at its Airship Operations base in the Akron, Ohio area.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The purpose of this position is to build, repair and maintain airship parts in the areas of avionics, electronics (day/night sign) and television and computer technology; operate and design graphics and video animation for the day/night sign; and to set up, trouble-shoot and operate TV equipment.
Position Responsibilities
The Airship Electronics Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting and repairing the airship’s communication, navigation, electric/electronic and computer systems including, radar, power generation, electrical systems, avionics computer systems and TV broadcast equipment. This individual will also participate in scheduling, dismantling, assembling and adjusting of telecast equipment at sites. Additionally, the Airship Electronics Technician will inspect and repair and/or replace equipment (electronic, electrical, computer and TV) in compliance with FCC, FAA and Goodyear's instructions and regulations; drive ground services equipment in support of the Airship operations, participate in airship helium/air “Pressure Watches” in rotation with other associates in order to maintain a safe masting conditions, maintain the integrity of the airships envelope; and work outdoors, assisting the landing crew to safely land/launch the airship. This position requires extensive travel for extended periods of time (4-6 months)
Qualifications:
The qualified candidate will possess a high school diploma/GED (or higher level degree), or advanced degree and related experience in electronics, radio, TV Broadcast, avionics or computer technology. Applicants should be proficient in all electrical manual skills (soldering, splicing, etc) and at reading electrical schematic drawings. Familiarity with ground AC generator electrical systems and all basic electrical circuitry is required, as is experience with basic TV/Radio principles and circuits. Computer literacy and working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Lotus Notes is a must. Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). FCC general license and aviation knowledge are preferred in order to obtain FCC general license within 6 months of employment. A minimum of a 2 year or higher level technical degree and an Airframe license are preferred.
Required-

Previously demonstrated related experience in electronics or radio or TV broadcast or avionics or computer technology.
Previously relevant experience in computer graphics.

Technical background (mechanical, electronics, avionics, TV broadcast, computer technology)
Technical reading and writing

Above-average computer skills, including Microsoft Office and computer graphics software
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Other HS&E training as required by Goodyear
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements (daily basis): standing, walking, running, lifting, pulling, carrying weights in excess of 100 lbs. – climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, and reaching. Work is performed at heights ranging from floor to top of buildings, climbs of 70 feet; and work platforms including ladders, scaffolds, scissor lift and lifting chair.
Vision, hearing and speech proficiency within normal limitations.
Must be able to work in indoor/outdoor weather extremes (hot/cold temperatures) - tends airship during inclement weather conditions (wind, rain, thunderstorms, etc). May be subject to still and video photography during the course of performing job duties.
