Goodbye DSL

Well, AT&T has finally done it. I'm done with DSL and phone lines for a while, maybe forever.

Switching to Cable for a bit, I'm sick of dealing with AT&T service. Time to head over to starbucks here soon, grab myself some free interwebs! at least until Wednesday.

I've understood cable to be better speeds but reliability is on par. Cost is quite a bit more too I think. Let us know how you like things after the install date.

Will do.

I honestly need a neighbor I can just flip the bill with. Not here enough to use it.

Cable is full of fail in my area...very unreliable...but then again I haven't tried AT&T DSL either.

Good luck, as long as its not Time Warner.

In which case, I advise you to buy a cheese grater and a bottle of Jergens lotion.

Around here, Time Warner has a lousy cable system that hasn't been upgraded for more than a decade, and it's a bureaucratic hell to fix it when they eventually double-bill you one month.

Cable internet is good, but we have cable telephone, television and internet at the house.

Usually, the television will go out. Then I can't check online to see if there are any outages because my modem is out. And then I can't call to report either.

Good call. I used to have AT&T and was getting raped because I was also having to pay for a phone line that I never used.

Switched over to cable and I am now getting cable TV with two boxes (one HD DVR) and internet for less than I was paying for AT&T DSL.

I think you are making an excellent move!

About 2 years ago AT&T added an option in my area where you could get DSL without a phone line, raises your DSL bill about $3/month.

I still haven't had a decent cable internet connection from any company I've tried, but my DSL has been rock solid at 3 addresses. All depends on how lucky you are at your house with your providers I think. The speed difference (10mbps vs 6 mbps, all they have around here) is irrelevant to me...I'd be happy with 1.5mbps internet as long as the ping is good and the connection is stable, which the cable companies have yet to provide me.

I asked... they didn't offer it.

Only reason we had AT&T is because our TV was satellite and internet through them was astronomical.

Switched to cable when we moved into the house and cut our bills by a large chunk of change.

Sounds familiar. My parents have everything through Verizon. Their internet died so I went up there to try to help them. One of the first things I was told by the recorded message was "if you are having problems with your internet, go to (some website) to see if there is an outage in your area"

*scratches head*

Or you can go totally wireless. We dropped all hardlines into the house. Cellphones for talking, DirecTV for tv, and a cell aircard, attached to a Cradlepoint modem for wifi. Totally happy with the setup.

Happy for Micky D's just around the corner! What is DSL and Cable? :D I pay for wifi by buying french fries all the time.

My fiances brother has AT&T DSL and the service is terrible! He has one of those combined routers and modems and the connection is spotty at best. I get faster and more reliable speeds with my iPhone tethered. Has anyone tried verizon Fios? Ive heard its quick!

I've got a customer in Plano, Texas using FIOS. Good God it's quick. It makes me sick. She gets 20 megs down and 20 megs up. Pings are anywhere from 0 to 15 ms. Yes, ZERO pings on speedtest.net. This service with 4 phone lines is 145$ a month I think.

hooha

:yup: I was waiting for a post like this!

She's a pilot too.

In fact, I swapped aircraft in ATL with a crew that had just met her when she dropped by the cockpit to say hi and ask some questions.

The FO was all stoked because she asked, "Wow, you must work out" and touched his arm whereas the captain was silently in shock.

Apparently, she's quite beguiling in person.

...no, she's just a woman!
