Good shoes

Most of the online shoe sellers now allow you to search for steel-free/airport friendly shoes. Many are god awful ugly but Clarks and Deerstags make a couple professional looking Oxfords that might be to your liking. Or you could just show up in a pair of Crocs!

if you are looking for good comfortable airport friendly shoes you should try these prands
Mephisto ,Rockport or Ecco you won't be disappointed

I've had a pair of Nunn-Bush or Florsheims (I forget which, same company though) for about 3 1/2 years. I got them at JCPenney for around $80. Very comfortable.

I have some Ecco shoes that I got at Nordstroms. I bought them when they had a sale and they were a under 100 bucks.

Doc Martens here. I picked 'em up at Journey's for under $100. Yellow stitching + black Sharpie = no problem.

I've tried almost every black dress shoe out there and have finally settled on slip-on Eccos. All of my others would wear out after a year but, the Eccos are running strong after three years. Best uniform shoe IMHO.

I also would recommend the Eccos. They're my summer show. I've had the same pair for over 4 years and they still look and feel brand new! Excellent shoe. In the winter time, I wear a pair of Justin Boots (especially since the last few trips have had highs below freezing everywhere we went).

Hey thanks for the replies guys.

I didn't realize that Doc Martens made shoes without a metal shank. I'm gonna be in the CVG airport today and tomorrow for a 90 minute turn both times. Anybody know where the crew shop is? I just may have to stop by and see what they have.

I'll second or third the support for the Ecco's. Still wearing the same pair I started with and they are still just as comfortable and polish up great.

That said... if you really like a specific shoe that has a metal shank, just take it to your local cobbler (yes, they still exist) and ask them to take it out and replace it with a thermoplastic shank. This can be done on close to 90+ percent of the shoes out there and the cost should be @ $10-$20.

Not a bad investment if you are really happy with the shoes.

Hope that helps.

Bob

I've been waiting for someone to notice! That picture was taken back when he was the CALALPA MEC chairman and he was working a CRAF flight to Kuwait sometime in 2002. We tried to get that picture on the cover of Airline Pilot magaine. :D

I've been wearing them since 2000 and it's about the only TSA-happy shoe that I've worn in the past decade that looks like a shoe and feels like a dryer-warmed bunny slipper to me.

Ahhh!
