Good Aviation Press (for a change)

Local news station ran a nice little video piece on learning to fly to last night. It's not often that aviation gets in the news without it being something negative.

The news story ran a minute or two. Here's a link to the synopsis: How To Get Your Wings (WXMI-TV, Grand Rapids)

(Hey BoDean, how come you weren't on the air?

Kudos to the FOX station up there in GRR for this piece, which encourages people to go patronize a local business and learn to fly! Better still, they did it without once mentioning that "little airplanes are dangerous" or somehow working 9/11 or terrorism in to the mix.

Refreshing!!

I miss living in the GR area. It was a pretty cool town.

i'm from that area and i sure as ##$$@ don't miss it. the school featured in that article "B&B" had a posting on climbto350.com for a flight instructor position a few weeks back if any of you guys in the area are looking for a cfi job. they have locations in jenison and grand haven. not sure which location needed the cfi. i think grand haven but don't quote me.

I sent that FOX station a 'thank you' for putting out an article that was actually positive towards GA!

Not that it will make a difference, but I try to send complimentary feedback as well as negative..............

To get a private license, one must be 16 years old, pass a written test and medical exam, and obtain at least 35 hours of fly-time.

"If you were to fly, two to three times a week with an instructor, you can expect to get your private pilots license after three to four months," certified pilot instructor Joe Kaverman told FOX 17 News at Ten.

But why do they have the pic for "learning to fly" a pic of the guy in the right seat?

The TV reporter for the story was in the left seat, and they showed her actually doing some of the flying. The still picture shown in the synopsis shows the CFI operating the radio, I think.
It was a nicely done little piece, with interviews of the CFI and one of the students, and some *relatively* accurate reporting.

I do wish they would post more reasonable "price quotes" in articles such as these. It seems they always try to lure you in by using the minimums and they try to play that off as an average. I know its business but it would be great if they were more realistic about the prices.
