Gleim vs. ASA Test Prep

Anyone have an educated opinion/comparison between the Gleim and ASA test prep software? Specifically for the ATP? I've always liked the Gleim books, never got less than a 97% on any test - but I've never used the ASA. I want to use the software as opposed to the books this time. I know that Gleim is Windows only so I'd have to boot my Mac into Windows(mildly annoying) and the ASA is slightly less expensive. Any other opinions?

I've never used the Gleim, I used the Sporty's free exam thing... I don't know what it's called. All I know is that it got the job done and I saved money. Doesn't provide explanations for the answers, though, but I really didn't need them, anyway.

Yep, we offer a free test prep at

There are also paid ones that allow you to see explanations. The paid ones range from 10-15 dollars based on the test.

Edit: Just realized you're looking for ATP, which isn't included in our study buddy software.

I've used the Gleim software for a number of certificates and ratings. I think it's top-notch.

I can't speak for ASA. I looked at their test prep software a number of years ago and found it very amateurish (in the level of program sophistication and UI) compared to the Gleim. Bought it - returned it- bought the Gleim. But that was some years ago - it must have improved since then.

(BTW, I have the ATP sotware right now)

I always thought the Gleim answer explanations were sort of half arsed. They do admit though that they're pretty much giving you the bare bones minimum knowledge the pass the test.

sheppardair got me to pass the ATP written with minimal effort involved. I think I studied for about 1.5 days before the test, scored over 90%

I would definitely go with the Gleim. I have used the ASA written test prep before and I always thought that Gleim was superior.

Gleim for book. The only downside to Gleim is the smell and feel of lead on their "recycled" paper. I hate that. You also need a way to practice the exams over and over because the book only has one practice exam.
