GI Cert Issuance - FSDO in person?

I'm trying to work out how to get an AGI cert issued or processed. With the FOI & AGI certs done, I'm meant to make an appointment with a FSDO and present an 8710 form. Being in England, I checked with the London IFO but they passed me to the NY IFO and vice versa. Apparently an FAA inspector is hard to find here.

Looking at the IACRA FAQ, the recommending instructor doesn't have to send the university/teaching cert off just satisfy himself (why did I do the FOI then?) but I don't know if a DPE/Inspector needs to press the submit button in the end?

Do I need an FAA Inspector or just a CFI/GI to put me through IACRA - would IACRA just need to notice I have an FOI and AGI pass and then automatically issue me a certificate? Or do I need to do a FSDO or bust trip, weekend in Miami anyone?

You need to walk into a FSDO. You can do the IACRA thing, make an appointment and walk in and out in 5 mins.

IACRA for other certs just needs a DPE? I guess the FSDO usually handles CFI issuance, so why not for GI issuance too. Maybe I'll call SDL FSDO see if they'll allow a DPE to submit it. (and then I'll find one of those...)

Am hoping the IFOs in London/Frankfurt can help.

It's easy to do. All I did was schedule an appointment with the CLT FSDO in NC with the rep there and it took all of about 5 minutes to fill out. I brought in my AGI and IGI test results and an 8710 just in case. While I was getting all the necessary paperwork together for her, she was filling out the FAA temporary certificate infront of me... no need for a DPE or anyone submitting it.

I thought that like a DPE signs off on a checkride on IACRA which lets a certificate turn up through the mail 2 weeks later, that I could do the same at a FSDO (IFO?) - guess I'd better head over to the US for the Xmas Shopping

Ask your IFO to provide you with the name of a DPE that is authorized to issue Ground Instructor Certificates. You may have to pay but if all is well prepped with IACRA they can put it through.

Your IFO should be capable to issue to temporary certificate on the spot and send everything to OKC, however, I would ask the POI to put a safe vailid date on the temp certificate to avoid time problems with processing.

You may also walk into a FSDO in the US (it helps and speaks for your courtesy to find out if the POI on Public Duty that day has time to do it right away). Your 8710 should be filled out completely if you go the FSDO route as to avoid delays and wasting the POI's time.
