Getting sea plane rating

Hey guys i was just looking at SkyWChris's alaska pictures and i was wondering how much extra time and training does it take to be able to fly one of them. Is it that much different from land operations? Id like to do it, but i realy dont care to spend a whole lot of time and money at this time.

Don't want to spend alot of time or money??? Why did you take up flying then in the first place?

It took me about 5 hours of flight training plus the checkride. I knew a guy with a float plane and traded my A&P work for flight time. The instructor was a friend of mine trying to build float time to work for a 135 company so he didn't charge for instruction. So all it cost me was two Saturday's work and $250 for the checkride!
