Getting closer but still a little to go...

Well I am getting closer to my PPL. I finished up the cross-country requirements last Saturday morning. My navigation was on target and the flights were VERY smooth enroute. I did make two mistakes that I will NEVER make again so they provided a great learning experience as well. Thankfully, my mistakes occured at 7:30 AM at one airport and 8:15 AM at the second airport with me being the only one in the pattern.

I was suppose to finish up my solo PIC time on Monday but the weather has sucked this week so HOPEFULLY I will be able to fly tommorow. If not I am on the schedule Friday, Saturday, and Sunday so we will see. I need 1.6 more hours of solo PIC so I am going to go on another cross-country. Have everything else finished up in terms of airwork. I need to take the practical which I have been studying for and I hope to do that the 24th. After that its onto the checkride!

Sure no problem in saying my mistakes, hopefully someone will learn from them. I sure did and I will NOT make these mistakes again.

Going into my first airport (MIV) I entered the traffic pattern and I was thinking to myself that something doesn't look or feel right about this situation as I am downwind. I check my airspeed and altitude and they look ok but I still can't figure out what the heck is going on. SOMETHING doesn't look or feel right. What was it?

I was on a right handed traffic pattern instead of a left handed pattern

I figured there was nothing I could do about that now, and I was the only airplane in the Traffic Pattern. So I continued my approach and made a great landing. Like I said that will NEVER happen to me again I won't allow it. I have no idea why I let that slip but it did and I will correct it so it doesn't happen in the future. Thankfully I was the only airplane in the pattern.

Going into WWD I called up the AWOS and I misinterpreted the wind. The wind was 003 @ 4 so I should have used runway 1. I for some reason thought/heard the wind was 030 @ 4 so I used runway 10 instead.

Hope someone can learn from these mistakes.

I see you are from New Jersey were do you fly out of?

Thanks for sharing - I'll be sure not to make those same mistakes, although atleast some kind is inevitable. I fly out of the Flying W Airport (N14).

Ah yes...Flying W.

We hear you guys over our Unicom frequency all the time. Well, I guess it's your Unicom frequency as well

Kiddin'...good job!

Chris,

Who do you fly with at Flying W? I did my private there and was just down a few weeks ago. It was my first time filing IFR since the checkride and I wanted to come down and see my old instructor Mark before he leaves for Piedmont.

Dude. Seriously! That avatar is distracting. Its hard to read.

All I get is: "Hey guys just wanted to let you know...." ooh, look at that, oh right the post, "that I'm getting closer to my..." seriously, she is pretty hot, oh right, "PPL...." oh I can definitely see her getting close to....DANG IT

Don't feel bad Seggy. I've made the same traffic pattern mistake after earning my PPL.

It's unusual that an AWOS would report a wind direction of 003......
