GET OFF THE RUNWAY !!!

I heard a solo student pilot get chewed out by the tower controller at KFCM the other day. First he entered a downwind leg for the wrong runway, effectively going against traffic in the pattern. The controller told him to enter a right base for the active runway immediately.

When he landed, the pilot just coasted along the runway, as if he had all the time in the world, despite the fact that the airport was really busy. The controller told him to taxi to parking, but the pilot requested full stop taxi backs. The controller just went off at him: "GET OFF THE RUNWAY! YOU KNOW IT WOULD BE NICE TO BE TOLD THAT WHEN YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY IN, SOMETIMES!"

Poor kid. Is this the fault of the instructor or the pilot? I'm assuming he'd only just soloed.

And now for some spinning faces, just because I like them!

Some blame has to go to both, I would imagine. It sounds like he wasn't ready to be up by himself. However, the staying on the runway things sounds like he may have a total lack of situational awareness. You shouldn't have to know too much about flying to recognize a very busy runway. That's my biggest peeve out on the road: way too many people don't seem to pay any attention to what's going on around them.

I had this happen in front of me a bunch of years ago... a student AND his CFI landed in front of me and stopped on the runway... And just sat there... I was on very short final behind them in a Lear 35 coming back from a maintenance flight (i.e. no passengers)...

We buzzed him at about 20 ft. at FULL POWER... I think it woke them up! Broke off for an early downwind and landed... Tower called me after I landed to apologize for the guy on the runway... He said he called over to the flight school and read the instructor the riot act...

This occured at a very busy GA airport...

You're not supposed to overfly another plane on the runway if at all possible. At least for us, we're required to offset on the hot side during a waveoff/executing climbout.

Yeah but you don't have a GA plane with the power of an F18 though, an F-18 at full power would probably crush a Cessna, wouldn't it?

I saw soemthing similiar last week there Richard. 28R/L were active and tower told the pilot to report entering DW for 28R.. He reported the dw, but he was set up for 28L when he reported and luckily the controller did not get too upset. That same day (early evening) when biz jet/king air traffic was returning from their outbound flights I saw a Citation do a go around.

The controller was landing helicopters, C172's and others and got his spacing all messed up. There was a C172 rolloing out on landing and then I heard this loud, loud sound and whoosh, the jet started a climbing turn to the left. I had this image of dog walking away with his tail between his legs as the Citation came back around and ATC said, "Thanks for you help. Sorry about the spacing".

The student pilot could have saved everyone some grief buy adding those two words on to the end of his communication....Student Pilot.

We aren't the military.. and the pattern was full on both sides, tower wanted us to go straight ahead... We just did it a little noisier than we had to...

What I saw was worse than that! He was told to enter right base for 10R but he was setting up for left downwind of 28L - the opposite end of the active!

Dropping munitions makes the low paycheck worth it.

Don't need an F-18. Any jet aircraft at full power could toss a Cessna over after it overflies said Cessna.

Said Cessna that stops on runway without clearing and has jet traffic behind on final is asking for that to happen to them.
