General/Civil Aviation in Iran

Hey I didn't know where else to put this but for a class I'm taking in the Army were researching Iran. Of course I was lucky enough to grab Iranian transportation including their Aviation industry.

Anyways theres plenty to read about their airlines and recent disasters (which are plenty) but I can find very little about GA. Just two flight schools... thats it, I checked airliners.net and the only smaller than a ATR is a parked Twin Commander and MiG fighter jets. Is GA allowed in Iran or is it banned like in Cambodia? Are these flight schools private or government sponsed?

Just curious, thanks!:rawk:

they allow ga/business aviation through their airspace. i've flown across iran from dubai to almaty.

what's happening within the country? no idea.

They have GA, and yes, they allow GA flights.

There are few flight schools however, most pilots come from their military. However, i'm pretty sure theres a flight school in one of their islands called Kish. I remember seeing some GA planes in a pattern around the airport doing touch and go's. I'll ask my uncle next time to talk to my cousin who is in flight operations for Iran Air and see what i can gather.
