Authorities Use Closing-Loop Device To Capture Pet; No One Hurt

NEWARK, N.J. -- Alligator bags weren't the problem on an American Airlines jetliner that landed at Newark International Airport from Miami on Monday.

It was a live, 5-foot alligator that was captured inside the baggage compartment after escaping from its crate.

No one was injured.

The Port Authority police emergency services unit used a closing-loop device to capture the gator.

A Port Authority spokesman said the owner was on board the flight. He didn't release names and doesn't know why the alligator was being taken to Newark.

I bet the baggage handler won't pop the door open and hop on in next time.

Re: Gator Gets Loose In Airliner\'s Baggage Area

We were loading boxes the other night, and like normal we really weren't paying attention to what was in them.....until the box moved on its own. I put my hand on top of it and could feel the top moving. Then I read the label - Caution: Live Animals 500 live mice. The box next to it had 250 live rats. Normally we do a ton of fish, but this is the first time I've seen rodents. 'Course the was the time New Orleans sent us three lizards (wild ones not packed and shipped) in a bin.
