Gaps in Flying History

Do airlines pay much attention to any large gaps in your flying history?

I've got an eight year gap from when I got my PPL in high school to when I started flying again this year. I'm assuming regionals wouldn't care much... But what about legacies?

Usually in these cases applications will ask for references that can verify your activities during the period(s) of time that you were not actively employed.

The airlines will not care about gaps in training for your flight certificates. They do care about gaps in unemployment history.
