G-V sinks into tarmac...

The asphalt didn't melt. There is undoubtedly a little sink hole that developed under the asphalt. Not unusual. A light aircraft could park on it with no problem. But put the main gear of a G-V over it and.........

Not unusual at all. When a heavy object is placed on hot asphalt, the heavy object will sink into the asphalt. Airliners don't usually face this problem because the ramps are all reinforced. In the GA world you have to be aware of runway and ramp weight bearing limits. Anyone ever parked a motorcycle on asphalt in the summer and come back to find your kickstand 3 inches into the pavement (or the bike on its side)?

Had a Jet Commander sink a couple inches into the asphalt one time. Took some doing to get it out. But if you'll look at the pictures it's pretty clear this is some kind of structural problem with the ramp. The other gear aren't making a dent. The right main is in a friggin hole. The ramp may not have been designed for the weight, but there was a hole under the asphalt that caused this.

I peeled up a bunch of asphalt on a hot day once with the tag tires on a coach. It looked like wrinkled skin. My apologies to the Walgreens in Madison, Wisconsin.

In LGA they park the Delta Connection RJ's near the blast fence where there was NEVER meant to be airplane traffic. For that reason they have actually laid down those 1" thick steel support platforms you see many times at construction sited in the spots where the wheels go in order to prevent them from sinking or causing ruts in the asphalt
