Frontier

mooneyguy

been around forever
Ok, so what's the latest on Frontier.
Anyone been through a recent interview, JR bases being assigned in training?
What is their training like?
I received a call today, but I didnt get to answer. I called back and got voice mail. Waiting my turn in line again I guess.
I appreciate any information My fellow JC'ers have to offer.

Approximately 200 airplanes yet to be delivered. Growth really starts kicking in the second half of this year and isn’t scheduled to slowdown until around 2026.

1. New hires are getting LAS and the other bases can be had with a few months of seniority but there is a lot of shuffling going on so things are a bit up in the air.

2. I’ve heard the interview now lasts 1 hour and the percentage of interviewees hired seems to be increasing. There is no longer a training contract and I believe that hotels are now being provided to new hires.

3. Training is extremely laid back and it is served to you on a silver platter what they expect you to know. It’s up to the individual whether they want to take the ball and run with it or not.

Having said that, morale is probably the lowest I’ve seen it. Contract negotiations have seemed to have gone nowhere in 2 years and each company offer seems to be more insulting, if they even show up prepared to negotiate.

If you have any other questions I’m happy to answer them. Otherwise best of luck.

I answer since I start class in a few weeks

Approximately 200 airplanes yet to be delivered. Growth really starts kicking in the second half of this year and isn’t scheduled to slowdown until around 2026. 18 planes being delivered, but 12 planes are lease returns so 6 net, but they are looking to keep more. Next year, essentially a plane every 2 weeks is delivered for the foreseeable future.

1. New hires are getting LAS and the other bases can be had with a few months of seniority but there is a lot of shuffling going on so things are a bit up in the air. this is what I keep hearing

2. I’ve heard the interview now lasts 1 hour and the percentage of interviewees hired seems to be increasing. There is no longer a training contract and I believe that hotels are now being provided to new hires. my interview class had 7 and 4 were hired, the interview is streamlined and you will know if you got the job that day. I got there at 6:45Am and was headed to the airport at 11:30AM. no training contract BUT you still are paying for your own hotel, unlike popular rumors that are going around. yes it's crappy.

If you have any other questions I’m happy to answer them. Otherwise best of luck.

Hey all,

Thinkin about making a switch to Frontier. Any current people willing to chime in?

How long off reserve to hold not red eyes?(DEN)

What are the travels bennies like?

Cheers,

Snow

Hello everyone, like a lot of people I'm interested in the DEN base. Hows reserve life at Frontier? Competitive times? Do you guys think hotels for training will be offered in the future? Thanks for the help.

DEN is by far the most senior base, but also by far the largest base. If you want it, I think you'll be able to get it soon after if not in training. That said, reserve is lasting at least a year right now in all bases. Captains who have been here 11+ years can't hold DEN at all. You might consider that with upgrade times currently in the 3-4 year range. We are expecting growth but you have to take that for what its worth. Only a handful of airplanes to be added this year but there should be a lot being added beginning next year (per the company). I hope a new contract is close, but I don't expect any significant progress until the company begins to have a hard time staffing.

Reserve life is dependent on reserve period, base, month, staffing, etc. - hard to tell, but I imagine fairly typical of the other ULCCs. Long call is 12 hours, medium is 10.5 hours, and short is 2 hours. Rumor is they might provide hotels to future newhires, but plan for that not to be the case. Total newhire training footprint is about 2 months so expect that in hotel, airbnb, rental costs. I paid around $600/mo for a room during my initial. Having a car there is basically a necessity.

I like the job but I sure hope there is a new contract soon. Expect no more than $33,000 on your W2 for the first 12 months at current rates (maxing out the 401k match).

I'm not DEN based and don't have the bid packet in front of me so I can't really comment at the moment. LAS trips are over 50% redeyes per union stats a couple months ago and I think that number is deflated now due to turn pairings that have since gone away. We do lots of redeyes here in all bases. For example, if LAS based, it would be safe to expect every single pairing to begin with a redeye. At least its commutable.

A lot of great replies. Thank you all.
On reserve, how many days are most reserve lines, and how many days off between?
What about hard lines what’s the typical length. 4 day? With how many off between?

Reserve lines are typically 4-5 days on followed by 2-4 days off. You can swap and drop reserve days based on availability.

Hard line trips range between 1-4 days with 15 days off per month.

How many F9 guys/gals are here on JC?
I don’t want to start a new thread, but on the angry pilot forum there is a thread about probationary pilots being fired. The number is reported at 10. Apparently it was due to attendance issues. Of course it’s being spun negatively against the company but there is no actual info coming from the company or Alpa.
Anyone know anything?
It’s interesting to me since we just had SC in this week talking to the new hire class and one of the things he told us is if problems arise family comes first and they would work with you.

I interviewed a few years back and wasn't hired. I was pretty disappointed at the time but reading about the things going on over there I'm glad I didn't go there.

Im at F9 along with a handful of other here, it’s true that guys with some attendance issues were let go (so far it seems to be a power move by the company)

Also they are cracking down on guys dropping below 70 hours (it’s in the contract that you need to be above that but they never did anything about it till now)

they also cancelled all vacation for august.

The feeling is that Management is getting nervous and started pulling out all their tools to create TRO’s.

At my last airline it took about 2 years of Union busting techniques for them to achieve their goals. Here they've gone through the playbook in about a month. They're having trouble filling classes with qualified applicants and are short staffed, but we are adding 8 airframes in the next 6 months. (Don't be surprised if they threaten to defer orders).

Most regionals pay more the first 24 months. They basically told us they are trying to gather enough plausible data to file a TRO against us.

Those don't sound like the actions of a Management group who believe time is on their side. I'm pretty cynical and the last year has been frustrating but it seems like something has to give soon.
