Going to go fly the DA-42 and saw this on the prop. Airport construction has had us taxiing over some rather sketchy taxiways, that is where we are guessing this was picked up.

The face of the blade (or in pilot speak, the back). Notice how the steel protecting the leading edge has been split.

The damage to the steel caused it to pull away on the back of the blade (front in pilot speak), cracking the paint.

:tmyk:
(sarcasm)
BTW your DA42 is dying you should be getting a good discount

I don't think its so much steel thats protecting the leading edge, but rather the leading edge of the blade that hasn't been painted with anti-glare black.

Either way. Good find. Had you flown that airplane previously and noticed an excessive vibration?

No, there is just a steel strip protecting the leading edge. It goes back maybe 3/4". The prop is wood core, with a composite (I think it's carbon fiber) covering. The reason for this is that an aluminum prop does not have near the fatigue life required for use on a diesel engine. You can see where the steel ends in the first picture, just aft of the nick. No one noticed any problems with the airplane prior to our flight.

I thought the second engine was just for looks. You can't just take the prop off and takeoff with one engine??? :sarcasm:
