Is there a reason why this forum is down at least once a week....usually on weekends?

Do you have a time/date other than 'at least once a week'? I have had 0 problems in the last few weeks and I am on here far more than I should be.

It's next to impossible to troubleshoot a problem without any specifics...

Don't know your background, but in the lovely world of IT there are lovely things called, 'maintenance windows'.

Hmmm, I just looked in one thread and found these:

:yeahthat: :yup:

Dear Dough:

Plz prserve theez psots 4 JC posterity. kthxbai.

My night is complete. Seriously Qgar, this might be a wild one...

Shhh, don't anyone tell poor b. that I'm NOT a pilot, but a former (and hopefully) future FA!!!!! :D

all posts were a minute or two before and a minute or two after 2240 EDT....

It might be a good idea to do a traceroute and ping on the server to in order to help troubleshoot if its not coming up for you.

to run a traceroute:
Click Start
Click Run
type cmd
type:
tracert forums.jetcareers.com

look for any stars (timeouts).

to ping, get in the command prompt again but instead type:

ping forums.jetcareers.com

yea, we definitely need more info to try and troubleshoot. Nobody else has reported the forum going down for months now.

I highly doubt it'd go down so early in the evening...the backups are typically done between 1-5AM EST so that would probably be the only likely time that the forum would have a hiccup.

make sure you clear your cookies, delete temp files etc...and if it keeps happening, do a traceroute/ping and get us the results.

OK, here goes:

Trying to access the forum at 11:20 EDT Sunday 9/6:

Unable to ping the forum

...or tracert the forum:

1806-tracert-forums.jpg

So I used the site's IP address

1807-tried-www-jetcareers-com-didnt-work-so-i-used-ip-address-worked-fine.jpg

and access the forum from there -

1808-trying-access-forums-there-no-go-see-below.jpg

but still no go.

And this is the tracert for the IP address:

1810-tracert-ip-address.jpg

Looks to me like a DNS issue in the site's end. I was able to access any site but the forum.

hmmm....I found several posts to the forums around that time with in a minute or two either way.

Maybe the info will help Doug troubleshoot but it looks like plenty of others were accessing the site at that time....

What if you try using a different DNS? Try 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Which DNSs are these? and why would I change it to something different than what my ISP sets? I am able to access any other site at the same time...

I'll take a peek at what you posted and I'll find some solutions for ya! Gimme a couple moments though.
