For you veterans out there...

Ok so hears the deal...

I'm a college senior this year and looking at going to ATP beginning in May/June 2007 (particularly SUA) for the ACPP. I chose to obtain my B.S. degree in finance rather than aviation, as I was always told to have something to fall back on. I hold a PPL with approx 100 TT and a complex endorsement.

I was going to go down for an interview in October, but was advised that I should wait until Jan./Feb. I have a few questions that I'm sure many of you veterans can answer in the meantime. FYI...The posts I've read have been very helpful in making the decision to consider ATP. I have done a great deal of research on various flight schools and finance options, and ATP seems to be a top notch organization (minus the ridiculious SLM interest rates)!

1) What, if any, do you think the price increase will be between now and the beginning of next year? Have you seen any trends regarding increases over the years?

2) What is the comparison between ATP and Aviator? Pros/Cons to both?

3) Does the fact that ATP is a Part 61 school vs. Part 141 (where I earned my PPL) reflect the quality of the training? Do airlines/corporate employers prefer one over another?

4) How is the SUA location? I've read many of the posts and spoken to a number of people, but I thought I'd see what there was for any updated feedback. (Disclaimer (HAHA): I'm not asking because I'm looking for information on wild nightlife. While I absolutly love to have a good time and socialize, I'm considering ATP to learn to become quality a pilot and instructor...not to relive freshman year or to chase romance)

5) What if any advice can/would you give someone like me who is aspiring to enter the field of aviation? I'm certainly not set on just the "airlines"; however, would it be in my best interest to pursue corporate aviation during these turbulant times in the airline industry? What are your thoughts?

Thanks Everyone!

If youre eligible for VA benefits, go to a different school - one that the VA will help you pay for. ATP does not currently qualify. I like ATP, but the VA will help pay a significent portion.

Okay, so this thread is for veteran's of what? Not the military obviously. You asking for veterans of the ATP process / school?

It may, back in the 80s it was like 22k for the ACPP. ATP is usually willing to allow you to lock in your rates a few months in advance (no more than 6) by paying the $1,500 non-refundanble deposit.

Ari-Ben offers a pretty good product. They're a little less expensive than ATP. It was a hard choice between Ari-Ben and ATP, I ended up with ATP. As far as your logbook is concerned the only thing ATP gives you that Ari-Ben doesn't is the high performance/high alt endorsements. Ari-Ben doesn't use FTDs while 50 hours of ATP is FTD time. (CRJ and Seminole simulators.) ATP does have more locations across the country, so that offers the ability to really fly across the country, which is nice. ATP also offers little bonuses like reimbursing hotel costs, a 3 month jepp subscription (for the region you're in), etc.

No, they don't care at all.

I'll leave this to someone else to answer.

It's not too tubulant, which is I mean it is less turbulant than it was a few years ago but this industry isn't exactly a stable one. At the moment, the outlook is good. But who knows. Trying to guess what it will be like in 6 months is akin to tilting at windmills. I'm just hoping for the best!
Corporate aviation is always a little more 'stable' than working for a 121, the jobs are harder to get though unless you already have a lot of TT or someone to get your foot in the door, or both. They're good jobs, I don't think either way is intrinsically better than the other.

I have flown and talked to three people who either
instruct or were training at the SUA location. From what they told me, the apartments are really nice and the training facility is very good as well. I flew into the SUA airport once during my cross-country phase and I left with a good feeling about ATP at the SUA location.
