For you UPS people, and those interested in the company

There's an article on airliners.net that gives a history of the company and current information on it too. I didn't have time to read all of it yet but it looks good.

UPS Article

I read it all. Pretty accurate....not your typical management hooplah.....

If one cares about such things....worth the read.

Wow! I als read the whole article. It is amazing how that little boy with the 100 dollar bill do so much and how they evolved. From bikes, to motor vehicles, to aircraft. Pretty amazing stuff. Thanks for the information

At the end it says that UPS has avaiable options for more MD11s. How is this so when the MD11s aren't made any longer?

Our MD11's are all ex-pax airplanes, converted into freighters. None are new. UPS always buys used when they can. They got a good deal on the airbuss's, so they are getting those new.

That is a great article. UPS has always been fairly reliable... more so than the post office (in my opinion ofcourse).

My mom has worked at UPS as clerk for 25+ years. UPS is an excelent company who takes care of it's workers and thier families. Well, better than most companies anyway.

I was looking for the requirement for a pilot position at the UPS website but I could'nt find any

Does anyone know this info?

My quality of life is unbeatable. Right now, I'm working tues-thurs, three weeks a month, on duty at 6am, off at 430pm, two legs to Dallas and back out of my home town. It could all change at the whim of those that build the schedules but I've maintained my seniority as an F/O so that I'll always get a pretty good deal. Many guys at UPS are working thier butts off, though. For example, as I look at the schedules in my domicle. I only see about 10 percent of the trips that I could live with. Now, I'll admit I'm lazy, but that's a pretty low percentage. Hopefully we can get some language in our next contract that will force the company to build better schedules. To me, that's more important than pay.

Other QOL issues. It's night freight (mostly), it's hard on your body and some guys just can't hack it. You are away from home a little less than half the time (most guys). There are ways around this but all require some sacrifice. Being gone so much is hard on a marriage/family....I can't believe the number of guys that are divorced. At least half.

I'll tell you though...there is nothing like walking through the terminal in my brown uniform and hat and having kids come up and ask for my autograph....NOT. (sorry, I just watched catch me if you can....where did they come up with that?)

To get hired as a pilot at UPS (back when we were hiring) required 1000 PIC turbine, a degree, and at least one recommendation from within the pilot group. These were not UPS advertised minimums but were the REAL numbers you needed.

If you want to know what it felt like to be a slave on a plantation in the 18th century U.S., work as a sorter at UPS in the summertime.....

Man, you get to see it up close on the ramp, I'm sure. Wasn't worth $9.50/hour. Hell, wasn't worth $14.00/hour!!! That was the most fun I ever had quitting a job!! Well, it was my first time quitting a job....

UPS Climbs in Fortune Ranking of `Best Companies for Minorities`; Company Also Among Very Best for IT Professionals

June 15, 2004 10:59:00 (ET)

ATLANTA, Jun 15, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- For the sixth consecutive year, UPS (UPS, Trade) has ranked among the "50 Best Companies for Minorities" in an annual survey published by FORTUNE magazine. The company also this week was ranked No. 9 among the "100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology" by ComputerWorld magazine.

UPS's continuing commitment to diversity was recognized by FORTUNE as the company improved upon its performance of last year, climbing three notches in the rankings from No. 26 to No. 23. The survey ranks corporations on their commitment to hiring, promoting and retaining a diverse pool of talented employees. In addition, it reviews companies' support of supplier diversity and philanthropic support of organizations that support minorities.

The ComputerWorld survey, now in its 11th year, pushed UPS from No. 20 in the 2003 rankings up to No. 9 this year. The magazine reviewed a large amount of data ranging from salary and bonus information and turnover rates to benefits and tuition reimbursement policies. UPS employees then were selected at random and questioned about morale, the importance of various benefits, career growth and equal treatment of employees.

UPS has received a number of other diversity honors in 2004. DiversityInc magazine ranked UPS No. 32 among its "Top 50 Companies for Diversity;" Hispanic magazine ranked UPS No. 7 among the "Top 10 Companies for Latinos," and UPS was named one of the "Elite Eleven" of America's Top Corporations for Women Business Enterprises by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council.

In addition, for the fourth year in a row, UPS employees helped the company become the nation's top contributor to the annual United Way campaign, generously providing $54.2 million.

Yeah, I know. If you're willing to work the back side of the clock sorting for 10 years part time, in the cold and heat, before you get full time and become a driver.....then it's a great company!!!

Hmmm....

It really sucked....

In North Korea, everyone says their happy and content, too....

Hey, DE727...quitting that sort facility won't hurt my chances at flying with the company, will it? As I understood it, the two entities are exactly that - two seperate entities.

Oh, but when they found out I flew, they tried to use that to make me a good follower....

You'll have several jobs between then and a UPS interview. I'd put a positive spin on your UPS experience and leave it at that. Did you piss anyone off when you left?
