I have my FOL, made my living arragements and now 6 days before I'm too leave for OKC I don't have my info packet that we are all suppose to get. I e-mailed my HR rep this past Friday, no response and just left a message with the number listed in the FAA FAQ. I start class on Monday, 12th and leave for OKC Friday, 9th.

So what is in the info packet that I need to know before getting to OKC?

Since you'll be there and all. I'm sure you won't mind popping into the panels meeting and putting in a good word for all of us from 3 and 4 eh?

Call (405) 954-6327 and talk to Robin. She does the academy packets.

I called her and left a message so I have to wait until monday.

Don't get there early?? mmmm....So what about getting my parking pass and IDs?? Nice one...:sarcasm:

Got a hold of Robin at OKC today...things were backed up / not communicated but was told to expect my packet on Wednesday.

DEFINITELY get there early, every day! Good luck and study lots. My husband had his first test today. He studied a lot last night and is still worried he failed. You have to get at least a 90% (can't miss more than 3) in order to pass the mini test and he just called afraid he had missed at least 2. He can retake it tomorrow if he did get below a 90%. He won't fail out if he fails this test but still you want to make sure you know the information as you go along cause it moves fast and the comprehensive in the end is just that...comprehensive and if you fail that your time in OKC is over! Come prepared to study like you do during finals week in college...but study like that the entire time!

Update: Just got a call from the hubby. He passed with a 90%. I guess that there were 3 different tests given out. Each had varying levels of difficulty and obscure questions. 1 question was never even discussed or talked about in class. Over half the class failed. That is just some indication of where you stand and EVERYTHING that you go over even in the first week! Lots of information!!

For those of you who got your FOL via email, did you notice that we had already filled out a lot of the paperwork that came with it in other attachments? Is it best to fill all of them out and create duplicates for the HR reps, or just complete the forms we haven't seen yet? If anyone knows the best way to do this I would really like some advice!

It may be a pain but I think you should just fill out all the forms again. It's better to be on the safe side.

Half of the forms are such bad quality that when i print them out they arent legible. Does anyone have good copies that they could post?

So Teetee,
You seem like a pretty cool gal. You seem like your pretty involved with everything going on even though your husband is the one going to school. Then your nice enough to get online and share with all of us your first hand info. Did you help him study? Any examples of what the test was like? what was the basic testing topic covered?

Thanks

Soooooo, I just received my OKC packet and it has a discrepancy. My class start date on my FOL is 2/25. My class start date according to the memorandum I received in the OKC packet is 2/24. I have tried getting a hold of several people, to no avail yet. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what was the outcome? Could the discrepancy be because the first day is more or less an "HR day" and actual course content starts the next day?

the packet doenst really have any usefull info in it. the only important thing it says is to go to the visitors building to the left of the guard shack. they will put you in a room and you will be waiting till about 7-705am. so dont show up super early. just be ontime.

That form is your travel voucher for Per Diem. It says the 24th because you get paid perdiem starting the day before class starts. It should also say the end date is 1 day after you class ends.

DOn't worry those that havn't gotten your welcome packet yet. THey didn't send out my class' packet until the friday before class started, & they had to FEDEX it overnight/saturday delivery. A few in my class didn't even get it because they had already left for OKC.

Your packet doesn't really have any useful info in it other than a map of the MMAC. On your first day you don't have to be there super early, maybe 6:30-6:40. You will be directed to the security building where you will wait until 7:00 for the rest of your class to show up. Then they will give you your parking pass & ID. After you have those (id's can take a while depending on how many are in your class) they release you & tell you to head to your classroom. It's really not that big of a deal on the first day.

yeah the first day SUUUCKS. its not ATC, just a million ways to get fired. and about how not to be racist, or sexually harrass anyone, tell dirty jokes, and sooo many other things....oh yeah, and not to fart around people..haha..some of you OKCers might get that joke

Don't forget how they inform you how you can and cannot use the F word! My husband thought that was funny how they were telling people how they could and could not swear due to sexual harrassment.

No Fear - sorry just read your comment. Actually yes I do study with my husband. I did a LOT when he was in Basics. Now I just help here and there, mainly with phraseology stuff. In Basics (if I remember correctly you are a CFI) you will do just fine with minimal studying. After basics the classes are different based on terminal and enroute.

My husband has gone to a LOT of study groups for his enroute non-radar class. He talks to me about them a lot but I don't study it with him like I did before. Right now in Non-radar he is having to figure out how to keep airplanes separated without having a radar to tell the locations. My husband's advise is to learn phraseology and FAST. If you know what is being said, or how you need to say it, you can learn the other stuff and not have to worry about not understanding.

Wait, so how are you still there? I mean, you WERE the guy with the stripper avatar and all.
