Flying with the best pilot!

I don't want to be rude or anything, but actually how receptive is the crew to jumpseaters making gentle suggestions about what/when/how to say over the PA or how to deal with passengers?

Big no-no!!!

As a jumpseater you are along for the ride at the Captain's pleasure and have NO (as in nada, zip, zero) input into anything that doesn't directly threaten the safety of the flight.

Sit on your hands, smile, speak when spoken to and say "Thank you" a lot...

So Kevin, I have to ask ya. Do the older senior captains try to give direction when they're jumpseating on something like a regional jet, with a young captain? Or do they keep their mouth shut too? Inquiring minds want to know.

What the heck is THAT supposed to mean!!??

(Like how I extracted the one little piece of info from this thread that applied to me and me alone and made an issue out of it? ;))

Just to clarify, I meant that everybody that I have ever met from those communities (helos included), were nice and civil folks. I assumed Mr United Nice Guy would never have come from the bowels of the fighter community. The mean and ornery typically come from Navy fighters and Air Force A-10s. I don't know why that is... probably a genetic thing.

Don't worry Ian, it was a compliment you should not take offense to.

Good senior captains keep their mouth shut. The same respect is shown a Beech 1900 captain as a 747 captain.

I say again...

That goes for the most senior B-747 Captain jumpseating with the most junior "ink-wet-on-the-type-rating" Beech 1900 Captain.

The only exception (other than something affecting safety of flight) is a line-check airman in the performance of his duties, or a chief pilot of your own airline...

I'm sure this Captain Denny is a great guy and lots of fun to have around...

...if you're a passenger.

Otherwise to much smoke for there not to be some fire about him being a pompous arse to fly with.

Most pilots are pretty self-effacing types who like to take care of their passengers and their crews. This guy seems like he goes out of his way to "take-care-of-the-pax" thereby really "taking-care-of-Denny..."

Everyone "Oohs" and "Aahs" and says what a splendid chap he is and guess what?...

There's only one ego being stroked here and UAL Corporation doesn't have an ego...

JMHO, YMMV.

Kevin

I hoped you wouldn't take it that way, it was meant to be a "generic" jab...

I wasn't thinking of you, Calcapt!

Kevin

I took it the way you meant it. I was pokin fun at myself... In fact, you can still be my wingman anytime Kevin. :hiya:
