I fly to India regularly, it's part of the A340 network. I don't like it very much. It's often dirty, unbelievably crowded, it's not uncommon to be stuck in huge traffic jams at 3am. The south is a bit better. Food is veggie or 300% overspiced, don't drink the water, watch for your belongings and if you are a woman be extremely careful. Now the country is huge, some areas are beautiful and interesting, mesmerizing views and philosophy. I've done the Mumbay to New Dehli thing, Rajhastan, Utar Pradesh etc. I liked some parts of it, not looking to do it again. I've been very lucky to be able to visit Afghanistan when things were calm and now THAT is an amazingly, strikingly beautiful country. If you like trekking, Tadjikistan is wonderful.

@Derg, flying...as in crew member haha

Thanks!

You'll also find Indian ATC pretty inefficient which is a problem considering the incredible amount of planes in the sky at the same time....

Oh. I see. Have fun. For me, I've been to western and central Europe so much I feel much more comfortable roaming the streets of, say, Rome than I do in my own home town.

India isn't Europe or America so for me, it actually makes me feel that after the 9 hour flight from AMS, it's like I've actually gone somewhere.

Don't drink the tap water, no fresh fruit, sadly no street food and you'll be ok. Enjoy yourself.

Probably the biggest piece of advice I could give you is that the world doesn't hate you, they're happy you're there but they do not envy that you're American. The Indians are friendly, but don't try to bully, impose or think you're going to outwit an official because "you've already lost".

Gonna have to point out that it's American food that is 75% underspiced!

I miss good Indian food! :p

Historically, most spices have been used as preservatives for meat. Failing that, most spices are used to hide the taste of rotten meat.

WTF, over the word that begins with W and means prostitute is auto deleted from JC?? SERIOUSLY??!!
