Flying out of Fargo vs. Grand Forks

What ever happened to the Northwest agreement that the city of Grand Forks made with NWA that made flying out of GFK almost the same price as flying out of FAR?

Right now I'm trying to fly somewhere and it's $200 less out of FAR vs. flying out of GFK. Damn monopolies! Flying out of FAR all the prices for United, Frontier and Delta/NWA are the same exact low price. Here is to competition!

I think I might just fly on United out of Fargo to try not to support the monopoly that NWA/Delta has at GFK. I just hate having to drive out to Fargo to catch a 5am flight and having to pay for parking! It's worth the $200 saved though. /end rant

Vegas, even though I just went 2 weeks ago lol but I'm meeting my family there. Also looks like Allegiant Air is the exact same price as United, Delta/NWA and Frontier.

I have only flown out of Grand Forks once but have opted for go to Fargo about ten times because of this reason. Not only is it cheaper to fly out of Fargo but it is more convenient with more options than just going to Minneapolis. Plus its so hard to find your gate in Grand Forks.

It was cheaper for me to book a multi-city route (DLH-MSP-SEA-MSP-GFK) than to just do a roundtrip (GFK-MSP-SEA-MSP-GFK). Yet, if I'm not mistaken, DLH is also another NWA-only (oops, Delta...sorry) city. Is there any reason why the fares out of GFK are so ridiculously high?

Because NWA/Delta has no competition in GFK. They can charge whatever they want and not have to match another competitors ticket price to keep passengers.

When I was booking a trip to Seattle last month the prices out of GFK were lower than all the ones in Fargo...

Hell, if you are going to Vegas I'd definitely go with Allegiant. I'm sure you can get a pretty cheap ticket on them if you book in advance. Also, you have Southwest out of MSP now. I'm sure if you do a little planning and playing with itineraries you can put together a low cost trip.

I noticed last month ticket prices out of GFK were a lot lower than normal. Actually out of a lot of airports the prices were pretty cheap, I was on a trip and took I side trip to Vegas because I got a really cheap ticket. Must have been a slow month.

dont forget the option of taking the train to minne, then a cab to the airport. train $60 cab $20... still works out in your favor sometimes. ive done it.

Yea, I looked at that option. The ticket out of MSP is actually more than from FAR. Even when the ticket price is $100 less in MSP that FAR it actually more like $100 to take the train to MSP and back now so it's sometimes not even worth it.

Don't forget, Allegiant does LAS-DLH too, that counts for something.

and FAR-LAS and GFK-LAS - The days they have service don't work for me. I already booked going from Fargo.

Does no one else remember hearing about the Northwest Airlines/City of Grand Forks price agreement?

Well how far in advance are you trying to purchase the tickets. The thing with GFK is that the more advance you buy your ticket the cheaper it is. Its the right the day before tickets that Delta/Northworst gets you on.

Oh god, if you don't mind leaving the inevitable 3 hours late out of Grand Forks, the train is fine! haha

Rode on that thing to the cities to buy my car. I can't say I'm too thrilled about ever riding on a train again!:D Thing smelled like a giant fart box by the time we got there!

two words. LOUNGE CAR.

drinking all night with randoms, plenty of room to stretch out.

If there are seats available on the flights you want to take, check the price for your flights about 2 months from now. Then go to priceline and offer that price for the day you want. You will pretty much always get accepted.
