Flying in Winter

So what do you guys do to keep current during the winter months? What times in the winter are you grounded from flying due to severe weather conditions?

We're never grounded at any given time.

Obviously we can't go up when it's overcast at 1000 and the temp is -20, but there are still plenty of great clear days for flying.

I don't know the exact numbers but I'm pretty sure when it gets around -25 we go dual only and then at -30 or somthin like that it goes no fly.

The winters might suck up here but it definetely has never stopped us from getting our flying done.

If anything, we're grounded more in the spring and fall than in the winter. The only time I've been weathered in the winter was because of winds...that was it. We dont actually get that much snow here, its just damn cold.

the best flying is in the winter because it's so damn dense. high pressure, too. most of the time the density altitude is -2000 or -3000 feet. it was pretty easy doing engine out work in the seminole in november/december

We actually did go no-fly in January for several days in a row due to wind chill. It was a cooooold winter this year.

yes, the night it was colder here than on both the north and south poles, AND colder than on the surface of mars (the mars landers had just touched down a couple days before this...sigh) was the first time in 3 years that my car failed to start. that's ok....was time for a new battery anyway. that was a pretty butt couple of days.

Flying in the winter is quite enjoyable once your balls defrost and the plane heats up, performance is excellent. One of my friends went flying on a damn cold day. As soon as he took off, tower states "that is the first time I've seen an Arrow leave a contrail."

It stinks too in winter we can't get any actual instrument here. We have to worry about icing in clouds for half the year.
