Flying and riding bikes

If this should be in the lav, feel free to move it.

I know a heck of a lot of pilots that cycle for a hobby. How many people out there fly/ride bikes? Are you all roadies, or some mtb'ers as well?

Anyone want to have a flyout somewhere in Texas to ride bikes?

I have a Felt 70, I like it a lot and it was a 2005 model so I saved about $300 there.

I haven't touched it in a few weeks though, partly because it's so hot right now and I've been working mostly at night and the other reason being I've had nine (9) flat tires in the past 200 miles of riding. The last few tubes were getting about 11-15 miles before going flat. I don't see Lance stopping every 40 minutes for that. Oh well, when it cools down and I have more free time I'll get back on it.

Darn these California roads, Nick! If it were back on the east, you wouldn't have this problem. {sarcasm}

Sometimes I think I would like to pursue a career as a professioanl cyclist rather than a professional pilot, but it doesn't get much better than spending sometime in the saddle after teaching someone that the flare and round out is actually a good thing.

I would love to come down to Texas and ride. You doing the Hotter Than Hell 100? What part of Texas? Can I overnight?

I live in Salina, KS (central Kansas) so it wouldn't be that big of a deal. In fact I could maybe bring some folks down from the team to ride and relax for a weekend.

How do you feel about Wheat Beer?

Take your tire off and really inspect the inside if you haven't already. Otherwise inspect your rim closely. I had about 6 flats in 2 races awhile ago and discovered a very small metal chip on the inside of the braking surface just in the right spot. Another thought, check your rim tape too and see if its still holing up well.

Never flew GA w/ my bike to ride places, but Moab would come to mind as the airport isn't too far from town. Travelled plenty with bike case though commercially. What a pain!!

Uggh...I am finding trying to make a return to racing while on reserve is not fun. Can't wait to get home and ride tomorrow!!! Oh and I go both ways too...

road and mountain :)

My Gary Fisher takes me to and from to grocery store, drug store, and even the bars when I'm feeling brave. I wish I could take my Mt. Tam on the road with me, I wouldn't be so bored when I'm stuck at some crappy hotel. I probably average about 180 miles a month, and that's being home around 11ish days.

Yeah I briefly thought about ways to bring a bike along on overnights and quickly realized that was a foolish thought :)

I am hoping later on down the road when I get some better seniority and fly decent trips to make arrangements with a few local shops to rent on certain overnights. It would be easy to pack my own pedals, shoes and helmet.
