FLYI.COM

I think what triple7 was trying to to share was the new FlyI Airbus in his avatar. I'm not sure the URL of the picture so I can't post it, it is a little blurred in your pic though triple7. But I do like the plane, very unique.

I honestly don't see Independance lasting too long... UAL has already targeted that airline with lower airfare sales, better Mileage Plus benefits flying to/from IAD, etc.

Here ya go:

THANKS R2F
yeah, i was trying to post the pic but id obviously didnt work. oh well. lets not be negative about independence air....i just think its neat to be so close to a new airline....i dont work there but my chief pilot, close friend and numerous other flight instructors ive flown with do. its fun to see this thing rise up from the ground. I hope for their sake that you are wrong in that they wont last, but i guess time will only tell. funny thing too is that the "I-jets" as they dub the rj's is actually the name of a pen, and the topic of a subsequent lawsuit.....interesting.

I'm keeping my eye on this one for a couple of factors. First, the cost per seat mile on an RJ is way too high for a successful low cost carrier model. You'll need those things full on every flight to turn a profit. Second, what kinda deal did Airbus give them on those things, and is it anything like JetBlue's "buy now, pay MUCH later" loan plan?

Triple7 -

You fly out of HEF with AvAd? I just spent the last week down there getting my commercial with Bob (great guy). Talk about a great upgrade for him!

J.

PS - If you don't fly out of HEF, sorry!

yup, thats where i fly. I spend most of my time in jyo though since theres a much nicer arrow and its easier to get to my north destinations from there. yeah, bob was in the turboprop but now im not sure what he was upgraded to. im hoping for his sake it was the a319. well see. i like hef....what did you think of it?what were you doing in hef? where are you normally?

Triple -

Bob upgraded to the Airbus and starts school in November. I am normally located in Ithaca, New York (Cornell U.) but was down in the DC area working for the DOT.

I really liked AvAd and HEF. I always like airports where the love of GA is evident. I might be down there for a tailwheel endorsement when I relocate after college.

J.

Thats great news. I dont get over there and see him very often. usually on the other side of town. if you want to do any flying when you get back down here pm me and ill take you on a x-c somewhere over the mountains.

That's a fair opinion! I just hope, for the DC Metro area, it turns out to be wrong. Other than SW in BWI, there's no LCCs based out of the DC-3 with any sort of formidable presence. I'm not an anti-legacy guy who simply backs LCCs. Heck, I've been a HUGE United fan for both business and personal travel. It's just nice to see a little competition now out of Dulles where United rates have slowly been creeping up and service slowing dwindling /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

Also, you might already know this, but I-Air isn't new to the industry... they are 11 years old, operating under the name Atlantic Coast Airlines for United and Delta Express. United tried to lower the "fee for departure" agreement they had with ACA after they filed for bankrupcy. That's when ACA said "peace" and formed I-Air. Operating under a "fee for departure" environment is very different than the new business model, which is much more expensive considering all the overhead they require now (i.e. reservations, marketing, etc.). Hopefully they can stay afloat and keep the competition around. From what I understand, they are heavily funded by private investors. Hopefully the Airbus will help defray some of the higher costs associated with an all-RJ fleet. Only time will tell.

Yeah, i do know the history of the company. But to be able to watch a regional grow into something much bigger is pretty cool. i really hope that they are successful. alot of people are optimistic. they have a pretty solid model in place financially, and bank alot of what they are doing on the tremendous amount of cash they have in the bank. i forget alot of what ive read, but my impression was that they have got their ducks in a row and think they have it figured out. we will see what happens in the next 2 or 3 years. i think those airbuses will be a saving grace.

Oh yeah? I got my Private certificate at JYO with AV-ed flight school. I have been so busy I haven't even gone to the airport in 5 months, let alone fly.

My 2 year check is coming up soon so I need to go fly. It will be a shock for me sonce they have drastically changed JYO for business aviation.
