Fly in a B-17

This weekend 9/14 - 9/16, you can fly in a B-17 at Lewis University Airport in Lockport, IL (kLOT). For approximately $400, the flight is 1.5 hours in duration and from what I heard you get to sit in the right seat sometime during the flight. The EAA is offering flights to the public as well as free tours of the aircraft. Sounds like fun but way too expensive for me.

If you can, take the ride. I did it about three years ago and it was AMAZING. I paid $450 for a 23 minute flight, the math worked about to be about a quarter a second. It was worth every penny. I took these with a little disposable:

TAKE THE RIDE!

Think about it, how much does a Seminole or a Seneca or Duchess rent out for per hour? Now make it 5 times larger....

It's really not that bad of a deal!

The EAA's B-17 is called Aluminum Overcast. They had it at the fbo,Eagle Aviation, at KCAE last year. I was able to ride on it for free since I work at the fbo helped to escort people around the plane. Most of the people who I escorted were B-17 pilots back in WWII. One guy was ball turret gunner. He had alot of stories. It was cool to be able to hear the experiences everyone of them saw and lived.

Very cool. My grandfather flew B-17's in WWII. I would drop $450, and maybe more, for a chance to do this.

Are you joking!?!?! Where do you find out about all these older planes coming into the airports?

I live about 15-20 mins. away from Lewis University!

Probably wouldn't have paid the $400.00, mainly cause I don't have it, but I would have loved to check it out.

thats awesome. wish i was lucky enough to come across that. however i'm not sure i would pay $400 to do so. still cool though
