Flight Training around Seattle

Since I'm going to be moving up to Seattle and working for Boeing, I'm probably not going to be using my GI Bill benefits for much college. Therefore, I might as well use it to knock out my Instrument and Commercial certificates, maybe my Multi if there's money left. LOL

Wondering if anyone up in the area and some good info on the schools available in the region. Could always knock them out slowly through CAP or the Boeing flight club, but actually doing a school would probably be greatly accelerated.
 
One of the requirements for using the GI Bill for flight training is that it be done at a Part 141 approved flight school. It's possible that the Boeing Flight Club has 141 authority, but CAP won't.

I live around Seattle and fly with Boeing Flying Association we are not 141 approved. There is a good crop of instructors with a unique and great selection of equipment out of Renton. Everett has a 150 and couple of 172s. The only drawback is we currently don't have a light twin. That being said, I've enjoyed flying with them.

For a 141 school, it will make a difference which Boeing site (Renton, Everett, Auburn, etc.) where work and which schools are best. I did the 1hr drive (sometimes more with traffic) from Everett to Renton while doing my instrument and commercial tickets, after 8hrs of work, not always a good way to start a lesson.

Yeah, definitely planning on joining BEHA once I start working. Sounds like I'll primarily by stationed out of Boeing Field, but flying out of both Renton and eventually Everett. Figure between CAP and BEFA, I could slowly work my certificates out. But if I can find a streamlined system that accepts VA benefits, all the better.

Actually, @mikecweb, About to head out to the airport here in OKC to fly out that way for a few days. Going house hunting with a Realtor that we've been talking to for the past few months as the job offer was worked out. Hoping we can find a good location, and a good home in that location.

After that, we'll be officially moving out that way around the beginning of October. I've got an Oct 10 start date, but we still have to finish up the sale of our home here in Oklahoma, so need to maximize time here to close that out.

If any of y'all would like to get together sometime this week, let me know!
 
The Seattle real estate market is going nuts. Other areas not so much. The farther away you get the more reasonable it becomes. Be prepared to be shocked.
 
Galvin Flying Service (now Landmark Aviation?) at BFI used to have a 141 school. I haven't lived up there in 20 years, so I'm not sure if it is still operating, but it was a pretty quality place back then.
 
I think NAS Whidbey Island opened their club to the public.

Flew with them years ago. PA28-140 was $39 wet, C310 was $99 back then. Had a couple of old radial acrobatic trainers too. Bit of a drive but flying between A-6s doing FCLPs was interesting. :)

Yeah, this is part of the reason we're looking at buying immediately vs renting for the first year. With mortgage rates down, and prices definitely on the rise, seems like a great time to invest. Just glad that between the job offer and my retirement, I'll be able to afford it.

Hard to do when you fly out of both fields... LOL

Had to settle on a bit of a commute to one, horrible commute to the other. I'm hoping the shear number of 737s will keep a majority of my flying out of Renton, though.

Hoping using the HOV lane will help the commute some.
 
If I was able to move over to that side of the mountains I would love to move to North Bend. Little far of a drive to the airports though.

There was a home in North Bend that we would REALLY love to have made an offer on... But, the commute kills it. LOL

Eventually settled on Maple Valley. Great for the wife and kids, and a somewhat manageable commute into Boeing field for most of my work. Everett on the other hand...

Good choice! Maybe invest in a helicopter to get you up to Everett!
