Flight Simulator question

What setup do people use? Stick and rudder pedals? Yoke and pedals? No pedals? Throttle controls?

I was looking at which to buy but wondered, if any, would be the best value and realistic as possible experience.

What brands do you suggest?

Thanks for your time.

I just use a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick, and that works well for me. However I do have a yoke. I rarely use it because it is annoying to set up and take down whenever you want to fly.

Word to that... I had a CH Products yoke and rudder pedals, but they felt cheap and sloppy, especially the rudder. So I went out and bought a fairly common joystick with a twist grip for the Y-axis if needed. I like the joystick a lot better!

The school I fly for has a sim room with a Frasca 142, a GAT-II, an three high-power PCs with those HotSeat flight simulator chair contraptions with the speakers and the seat and the throttles quadrant and yoke and all that stuff... It's a neat setup with the chairs and stuff, but the yoke and rudder pedals are really nice. I can't remember the name, but our office assistant said they were cheaper than CH Products on price.

I still like the yoke best!

I have the CH yoke, Saitek Rudder Pedals, and Saitek X52 joystick+throttle.

The yoke feels real when you hold it, but of course feels nothing like the real thing when as far as the performance. Pull back on the yoke just a tiny bit and the plane is all over the place.

The Pedals aren't very good, they feel way too light and slide across the floor, I had to shove books between them and the wall to keep them from moving. They lock up now and then and I have to unscrew the case and put the wheels back on the sliders inside. Plus if I tap the toe brakes, the brakes lock.

The X52 is awesome. The joystick is really comfortable, and a lot of fun to play around with. Also the hot switches are pretty cool. It also comes with a fighter-type throttle as a separate unit. It can be used independent of the joystick and I often use it with my yoke. Its the only product I own that I'd recommend.

FS was a lot more fun before I ever touched a yoke in real life. Its still fun to dick around the FS world, but of course its nothing like the real thing.

Check out the Track IR as well. It track your head movement and changes the cockpit view as you move your head.

I got something like that called the "iwear". It was NOT worth the money, all it does is make me feel like I'm having a seizure. Track IR looks much better.

It may depend on your hardware. I've heard some people have problems with the Track IR but mine works great - smooth and does exactly what is advertised.

Eh, this thing is a wrap-around piece of eyeware that is supposed to be 3D. All it really does is turn FS into an acid trip.

I have the CH Yoke and Rudder Pedals, and a Logiteck joystick. I just swap the yoke and stick depending on what aircraft I am flying.

:yeahthat:

I cant fly on FSX without it.

I was paid to fly there for a while and I use a basic Logitech 3D Extreme Pro. Then I got sponsored by Saitek and got the X52. It wasn't my favorite, but they were in charge of me and paying me, along with NatrualPoint, which makes TrackIR so I used both products.

. How did you get paid to play fsx?

I am a "professional" Condor Simulator user.

I have made a few hundred dollars over the last few years with it.

Sponsorships lead to commission from people saying they heard about the product through me/my wingman. (I flew a two man aerobatic routine in the Christen Eagle II 540) also, if we put on an airshow, public practice, or take somebody up for a ride, we would get a small amount. For the airshows/practices we would get paid based on attendance. Our announcer threw in some advertisements during our show which allowed it to be considering advertising.
