I have heard of these but don't know of any? I have a friend that has his comm single, and wants to be a CFI but doesn't have the money... Does anyone know of any flight schools that will hire you and pay for your CFI?

Only that I know of is Flight Safety in Vero Beach, that also includes a contract to stay and work for them for 2 years afterwards.

If i'm not mistaken UND will not pay for your CFI but if you come up here and work they give "discounted rates" for CFII, MEI etc. Also according to the demand....

MEI Is discounted for all staff, not sure about CFII.

I've heard that FSA doesn't like to hire outsiders. Not only that, but FWIW there is a 50% washout rate for their standardization course.

Could you explain? Maybe I don't understand it but it sounds like (to me) that you get your CFI ticket paid for and a gig afterwards to teach.

CFI training isn't generally very expensive... Most of the instructors I know around here don't charge other CFIs anything - kind of a professional courtesy.

SIU not only will get you a II but makes you get your CFII for free as part of your contract and will pay for your MEI as well once you are senior enough.

Can you tell that to the other CFIs in my neck of the woods? The CFI ticket actually cost me a pretty penny...

I think he was talking about once you are a CFI. when I was studying for my cfi, the place I worked didn't allow CFIs to charge other CFIs for instruction as a personal courtesy. I only got half the deal because at the time I was only an AGI.

The idea being that I could essentially do the training myself, or that one day letter I could repay the favor.

check out Sierra Academy of Aeronautics in Atwater CA. They pay for cfi-a II and mei. they require a year or 1000hr dual given contract, whichever comes first, and 1500 dollars down.

This is straight up amazing! 5 years ago IF a 141 school was hiring it was CFI/CFII/MEI and 200 dual given to get a chance to interview.

Times have changed fa sho!

Interesting indeed. It's an indescribably nice feeling to see the pendulum swing to the pilots' side for once.
