Flight schools in and around Memphis, TN

Piece of Trash
Okay, so it looks like I might be moving back home by the end of the summer. Which is good for the most part. Bad because now I have to find a place to finish flight training. So far I have found exactly TWO flight schools around Memphis, TN, and they are both kinda pricey for Part 61 ops. Anybody got suggestions or places to point me to other than Douglas Aviation and AirVenture Flying in Olive Branch, MS?

The pretty much run the monopoly on flight training there!!! I'd almost rather not move home than to pay those outrageous prices....

Yea tell me about it I am training at Douglas right now. All I have left to do is a check ride to get my private ticket. I have already paid about $7,000. I have about 45hrs of flight time.

Oh and thats in a 70's C-152. But they said they would hire me as an instructor when I finish up. Average CFI gets about 400-500 hrs per year. Thats about $8,000-10,000/yr

Yeah, and I'm looking for a MULTI rating. If I had an extra arm or a leg, it wouldn't be a problem......

Air Venture wants $213/hr for a Duchess, and I think Douglas is more than that for the Seneca.

You've gotta be crapping me!!!! Are you freaking for real? How in the heck can they get off charging that much?

I've talked to some people around there, and they say they charge so much because they're a "prefessional" flight school, with a "professional" way of teaching.....

They're full of it.

Supply and Demand, pretty much. Same way NWA can charge darn near whatever they want out of MEM. Only other flight school I've found is out at General DeWitt Spain, and they don't have a twin.

Exactly, Its not the Professionalism, I mean dont get me wrong they are all nice people but it is because there is no other place that can compete with them. They have alot of aircraft, well maintained can cater to a large number of students. They have an FAA DI on staff so you dont have to pay any extra for your check rides but that still doesnt make up for the cost.

Believe me when I started seeing how much less

others on this site were paying for thier training it made me sick.

Lets get some folks together down here and open up our own school. There are plenty of students!!

Doug? There's another vote for Taylor Aviation.....

I hate to say it, but ERAU has cheaper rental rates than Douglas. Now it looks like I'm going to be going to Farmington, NM, if all works as I hope it will.
