Southern Air Incorporated Florence, Kentucky:
Southern Air is currently seeking four Flight Operations Controllers for their Florence, Kentucky location. This individual is responsible for the preflight planning, delay and release of flights in accordance with 14 CFR Part 121 Supplemental Regulations and Southern Air Operations Specifications to ensure safety of flight.

Other responsibilities include:
  • Exercise operational control in conjunction with the Pilot in Command (PIC) for the safe and efficient operation of flights in accordance with FAA regulations and company policy.
  • Ensure that flights are operated safely and in compliance with all applicable FAR’s, company manuals, and all applicable Federal, State, foreign and rules, regulations, directives and policies.
  • Must have a complete understanding of the company procedures, limitations and directives applicable to the rules of FAR Part 121.
  • Prepare flight plans using NAVTECH considering aircraft limitations and performance, weather, NOTAMS (Notice to Airmen) and other information required for the safe completion of the flight.
  • Review, analyze and monitor present and forecast weather conditions, including NOTAM’s, PIREP’s (pilot report) TFR’s (temporary flight conditions) and airport conditions.
  • Update the PIC of significant weather changes, and/or flight plan, and make recommendations such as changing course, altitude or provide enroute landing destinations in the event of safety concerns.
  • Ensure that prior to flight release, all airport slots, over flight permits, traffic rights, ground handling, fueling, deicing and other operational requirements are in order.
  • Monitor the progress of all planned and in-progress flights.
  • Assist the PIC of the aircraft with an emergency situation by providing assistance necessary to ensure safe completion of the flight.
  • Maintain awareness of weather conditions, operational issues, crew time limitations, maintenance requirements, and airport conditions related to each flight.
  • Flight Planning
  • Identify potential problems and initiate needed corrective actions.
  • Prepare, review and sign flight releases.
  • Provide the PIC with all applicable information for the safe conduct of flight.
  • Determine and communicate the operational status and capability of the aircraft, which includes:
  • Weight and Balance procedures
  • Runway analysis review
  • Aircraft performance information
  • Airworthiness release procedures
  • Respond to interruptions in service with recommendations and notifications as appropriate.
  • Monitor and ensure flight crewmembers are scheduled in accordance with flight and duty time regulations.
  • Responsible for crewmember selection, scheduling and notification after normal business hours and in the absence of a Crew Scheduler.
  • Assist with flight crewmember travel arrangements as necessary.
  • Responsible for accurate reporting of crewmember flight times to payroll.
  • Initiate emergency response procedures as required by the company Emergency Response Plan.
  • Provide excellent customer service, in all situations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
