Does anyone have any recommendations on flight training in the Sarasota area? I found at least one FBO in Venice, Blue Sky Aviation, but I'm wondering if there is anyone else with a good reputation. I did a search on FI but couldn't find anything there. I know there are at least a couple, because there is a fairly decent-sized GA contingent sitting there at the field every time I fly in there on business.

i do know that there are at least two at srq. the one that is closest to university is known to be really dependable, clean, and they have great instruction and decent planes. I believe the costs were higher than VNC however, but if its closer it would be easier. I know a guy who got his ppl at blue sky in venice. the planes were in decent condition, not great, but flew perfectly without any problems. there is another flight school, the ones with the blue and yellow planes; they have been known around florida as a 'less than good' school. i am not sure really why. I believe it is because they may spend less time on communication and navigation, and try and push out the student. I heard this from my flight instructor friend who lived by venice. its your choice, you just need to get more less-bias info.

The one close to University - is that Dolphin Aviation? Or is it Cirrus Aviation? I found a website for Cirrus.

EDIT - Cirrus is the flight school associated with Dolphin. The other one that I can find at SRQ is Jones Aviation.

The 'blue and yellow' planes you're referring to in Venice belong to, I think, Florida Flight Training Center. At least three of their aircraft look like Blue Angels, Piston Team.

There is a possibility that I may have to relocate down there (job transfer) in which case I can live rent free (Dad) and save beaucoup $$ for college and flight training simultaneously.

Not at all. If I have to relocate, I'll be starting from zero time. That's why I was looking for a decent FBO in SRQ with good primary instruction because the company I'd be working for is VERY close to the airport.

I know a lurker on here at SRQ. Not sure which FBO used, he is about to solo (today maybe?) I am trying to get him to sign up.

Comeon you know who you are! Don't make me give your IM name!

I'm at Jones Aviation at SRQ. They're cheaper than across the field (Actually the cheapest in the area) but the planes are bit older (1980's). They also dont have a twin available for rent at the moment, but they plan on having one later.

get your $60 intro ride to make a decision...

oh, and btw.. I didn't solo. Just too much jet traffic and I'm not so confident on the radios yet. Maybe Sunday.
