Flight Instruction and Part 135 duty times

I am curious if giving flight instruction counts towards duty times if you are currently employed by a scheduled part 135 carrier.

Not as far as the rest requirements for the 135 op. If you want to be a bartender during your schedualed rest period, JoeBob's charter service isn't responsible. Same deal for flying with students.

However they DO count against you maximum hours per day/week/month/year.
 
It counts towards your maximum flight time per day/week/month/year but it doesn't count as duty time, so you can do it in a rest period.
 
I think I agree with USMC. It does not count in regards to rest time (or duty time) but it does count towards commercial flying time.

You may want to consider talking to your boss before jumping into a part time instruction gig too, just to make sure the company is okay with it. Most will not mind (in my experience).

You can't call the 135 company you work for and go on duty when you're flight instructing for someone else.
As USMC said, it only goes towards your week/month/quarter/year flying.

But it's not 135 flying.

It is your responsibliity for get enough SLEEP during your REST peroid. If you are working your other job during that time, it's not the airlines fault.


BTW I agree that the way duty time rules (especially on demand 135) are written and enforced is completely rediciuls

Although it was already mentioned, here it is from the horse's mouth.

Note that the flight instruction only goes toward your duty time if you ARE being compensated.
