FL270 -- Airline Training Update

Greetings from the schoolhouse ...

Well, training continues to progress nicely. EMB-145 ground school has concluded and I successfully passed my written systems exam. Also concluded CPTs last week with no trouble. Yesterday was they systems oral, which also went well.

Last night was the first night in the simulator ... had a good time and was glad to put my new knowledge to use. Sims continue tonight and will run through the end of next week. After that, emergency exit training then off to IOE!

I have been awarded my initial domicile, but am still waiting for my uniform to be delivered. Hopefully it will arrive in time for IOE (apparently our uniform vendor is quite busy).

Will continue to post updates as time permits ...

Thanks for the update. Sounds like things are going swell.

I know these guys who (used to) fly for WN who might be able to give you some pointers on what to do in case it doesn't arrive

KA -- CMH, 890 total with my class, 22 in my class. Next class is already underway (systems starts for them this week) with 14-16 or something like that in it (which puts us over 900 now) and another class is supposed to start June 22nd.

Mat -- to spare the traveling public the pain, I think I'll find some *other* option ...

Few differences for ya that youll notice...THe sim does a pitiful job of simulating winds and turbulence. Youll really have to be deliberate with your yoke deflection in the airplane and youll really have to learn a Xwind landing technique, the sim just doesnt do it. Ill think of more later, but im exhausted today.

True that. THe xwind technique you learn in the most realistic sim absolutely does not apply to the real aircraft.

Sim training is finally over! Passed my checkride yesterday and the loft is today ... then I am out of the training center. Awaiting an IOE schedule but I'm sure it won't be a long wait. Training has been great, and I'm looking forward to hitting the line.

And I *hope* the crosswind landing is nothing like it was in the sim ...

IOE is over! First 30 hours in the airplane went really well ... the sim was good practice, but the airplane flies a *lot* better. Sitting reserve the rest of this month (as I type this, in fact) but actually got a line for July, so that's a very good thing.

The excitement continues ...

A line for July! Obviously flying the 4th. You are moving on up. Enjoy. These are fun times.

Isn't it great how you get through training on a new plane and then they put you on reserve. I hope you get a chance to fly a lot...cause you need to. I think you have 90 (maybe 120) days from your sim checkride to get your 100 hours in.

I flew 95 hours on reserve here one month, dont think he'll have a problem. I keep getting calls for overitme!

No problem getting my required time in. I've got close to 40 in the airplane already, a 14-hour two day tomorrow, another 14-hour two day and two days of reserve to finish June, and an 86-hour line for July. I'll be off high mins in no time.

I don't think there are too many people sitting around here, like Kingairer said ... everyone in CMH is plenty busy, anyway.

[/ QUOTE ]Absolutely ... I expected nothing less. I was just glad to get the 1st off to deal with some stuff at home. I didn't even try to bid for the holiday off! Easy day on the 4th, though ... leave the hotel, three short legs, and back to domicile in plenty of time to get a flight home for three days off. Nothing wrong with that ...
