First run in with my flight school....

So today I find out that my flight school stole $400 and change from me, which isn't alot in terms of flight training but still a sizeable amount of dough.

Heres what happened; When I first started flying with lets call them "school A" I made a couple of payments on an account that I had with them. Anyways they "merged" with "school B" I say this with quotation marks b/c the term was loosly used by my instructor. Anyways at the time that "school A" ceased to exist I had $400 and change in an account with them and was told by several employees, instructors and I think the owner once that the balance would be credited to "school B's" account. Well as luck would have it that money was not transferred over. My instructor knew of this a few weeks ago and said he didn't tell me b/c he knew this would happen and would rather see me use up the balance of $400 in actual flying, which I kinda understand and kinda don't.

So here's my dilemma; of course no matter what the outcome I am going to a different school but will stick with my same instructor. He (my instructor) told me I could stay with "school B" pay the $400 balance and then continue flying with them and of course pay them even more $$ when I fly again, go to another school and kinda not pay "school B" and hope they won't go after me, or talk to the owner and see what he does and if he makes me pay attempt to sue "school A" which doesn't technically exist b/c they went bankrupt I think , I do know that they "school A" doesn't exist anymore.

If I do have to sue should I talk to AOPA's legal service first and see what they say, btw any lawyers in the house?? or anyone studying law or anyone with experience sueing

I'd take a plane and run up a $400 bill, then tell them you have $400 on account. After that, I'd switch flight schools.

haha, thats basically what my instructor did for me, I flew for $400 worth of flying/instruction with the knowledge that my credit from the old school would be valued at this new school.
