FedEx Feeder requirements

Any clue on what the requirements are to fly FedEx's Feeder aircraft (Cessna 208B)? Are these pilots contracted by FedEx, or outsourced much like the legacy carriers? Just curious.

Seems like an excellent opportunity to work your way up through the stable FedEx company as a pilot (assuming you have a lot of previous multi time).

Feeder pilots aren't on the Fedex seniority list and I don't know of any preferential hiring to Fedex.

I have a friend who is with Mountain Air, and she says that only one or two of their pilots were successful at getting hired by FedEx. I'm not sure about the details, but apparently FedEx doesn't hire from their feeders.

Feeder pilots are just like any other applicants, I don't think it is positive or negative. SE turbine isn't worth much, but some of the feeders also operate multi turbine stuff, and that can lead to good PIC time. FedEx mins on the website (pilot.fedex.com) are firm, no waivers at all.

I would say that if one of the feeder pilots who I chatted with regularly, and met the mins, was interested, I'd probably try to help them. Some feeder pilots may have some opportunity to gain enough acquaintanship with a line pilot to get that all important recommendation.

My old airline had the feeder contract (PM Air) up until we lost a couple of 208s in Colorado. Empire Airlines then took over the contract for the Fedex feed.

SE turbine isn't worth much unless it's jet. At least for my airline. How regionals might look at it, I don't know.

Oddly enough. A lot of the guys we had flying the feeder caravans were older gentlemen that seemed content to be doing this with no desire of moving up or out. I couldn't understand it back then, but sure do understand it now....the whole QOL thing.

It is to southwest. They don't care if its multi or single turbine.

I'll second that. I know several SWA FOs that got their 1000 PIC turbine at Mt Air flying 208s.
