Fedex Dispatch

Not sure if any of this has anything to do with your questions, but I'll leave it for reference if anybody is wondering.

I have a friend that was recently hired as a 767 FO at Fedex. He was touring the GOC and asked about Dispatch for me, he was told they have about 90 dispatchers currently and hire roughly 5 every three months or so. They've all been internal for a while now. He was told if anybody wants to come externally they need a strong recommendation from somebody internal to have a shot.

In other words, start throwing boxes part time or forget FDX as ever being an option. lol

This is 100% incorrect.

To tack on...the pay and other information is also incorrect. The only correct statement is....if you want to work for us internally, make sure you work for “express”. Not ground. Not freight. Not trade networks....

Also....the midnight shifts are 2230-0630 domestic....2200-0600 international

Day shift?!?
Domestic : 8+ years of GOC seniority
International: 15+

Y’all can hold swings in domestic....but that isn’t very family friendly. The best shift for people with families is mids.

If you’re looking for a day shift, you probably shouldn’t consider working for AN OVERNIGHT PACKAGE DELIVERY COMPANY!

Just a thought.

PM me for more information.

It would be interesting to find out how long people spend on midnights at Big Purple and Big Brown. Decades?

Can one reasonably expect to become a day walker again at some point?

I’m in my 5th year and haven’t worked a straight midnight line ever. It is likely that a new hire will have the option of bidding a midnight line out of the gate or what we call a relief line, which is what I worked for the 1st four years. It’s a rotating schedule, all desks (domestic/int’l) and all shifts. However, you can specify your first choice to last choice and our schedulers do their best to accommodate. Add in shift trades and I really didn’t work very many midnights at all in those first four years. I’m currently on a 2nd shift split line (domestic/int’l). One from my class lucked out and landed a day shift int’l this year - if you like days that is. I passed on it. I think one in my class has been 2nd shift domestic since our 2nd year. My point is, no, you don’t have to be on mids forever at my shop.

I should point out...FedEx has the same relief lines which you could bid on as well. Domestic shift times are 0400-1200, 0500-1300, 0630-1500, 1100-1900, 1430-2300, and 2230-0700.

The 0400,0500, and 1100 start times are pretty senior. New hires will occasionally draw a 11 start time on reserve. You can specify which shifts you want to be assigned for reserve.

Also, we don't do domestic and international - you are either fully domestic or fully international. Peak, if international you can vol to pick up domestic, but not the other way around.
