FedEx just donated a 727-100 to a aviation school here in Greensboro. They are going to use it in their a and p program as well as there pilot program. I think thats awsome! Too bad it won't fly anymore.

Guilford Tech??

MTSU's former FEDEX 727 is really used mostly for media shots...

The first time I ever jumpseated w/ Fedex was on a 727 from DAY to MEM - it was so cool to sit behind the captain and hear what was going on w/ ATC and also watch what the FE was doing -- they really had some stories to tell!!

Isn't that a L-1011 over there MikeD?

Haven't been home or let alone to KTUS ina good while so not sure if they changed the plane.

But last time I was there that being last fall I saw a British Airways L-1011 parked out at the Pima Comm College hanger.

It was a Cambodian Airlines L-1011 or something like that. It was broken up and hauled off (as was the old mexican registered ex-USAF KC-97 Stratocruiser....what a shame). Just the Fedex 727-100 remains along with a Casino Express 737 without wings or landing gear. The Flying Hospital L-1011 still parks on that side of the field occasionally too. All the other planes that used to be there, including the ex-USAF C-133 Cargomaster, the numerous Convair 340/440s, and the first Lockheed L-1011 are all gone. I can confirm that all of them were broken up, with the exception of the L-1011, which was gone.

One of Delta's old L-1011 is being used as a flying hospital now. I think we donated a 727 to a school also but cant remember which one

Yep, Guilford Tech. Going to go take a look at it this week.

Get people just learning to get their PPL, to get rated on that 727, and now the school can say "airline captain from 0-6 days!"
