Federal Air Marshal?

A bit of a generality but I'll bite.

When I was a frequent flier I could pick out the FAM's in a second.

~Young guys I was 45 when I joined the FAMS and there were more like me one guy knew was 50 when he joined, I retired as a flying fam at 52

~Both on isle of 1st class Sometimes..... Sometimes not

~Opposite Sides Sometimes.....Sometimes not

~One forward, one aft Sometimes.....Sometimes not

~If you watch them they would make eye contact. So do most other people... if you watch them long enough

~No liquor - It's free up front. I on occasion had FA's fix look alike drinks and beside a lot of folk don't drink on airplanes, even up front.

~We were dressed for business. They were wearing NASCAR jackets and the like. I almost always dressed for business, just not in a suit, I always had other passengers dress worse than me, I also sported a full beard and longer hair most of my time as a fam.

~Boarded before other 1st class passengers. That did happen for awhile, but stopped after we bitched enough, thank god.

~Boarding pass sticking out of shirt pockets really gave them away because of the 'special markings'. Must have missed that special mark:D

~Once one guy blows his cover two weeks later you see him on your flight, look for the other guy because they travel in pairs. I rarely sat with or moved with my partners, some may have but not all of us, if we did get together it was away from the gate.

~Once on a DFW-LAX flight. Is LAX your destination? No, I stay on this plane and fly back to DFW. Stupid is as Stupid does, every group has them

~And my favorite. Guy sitting next to me dropped his tray table and filled out his Homeland Security time card.We didn't have "time cards", but Refer to last statement.

Just clearing thing up:pirate:

Hindsight being 20/20 my wife and I should have stayed at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Immigration Academy as Firearms Instructors. Pay was about the same and we'd probably still be there and not retired.

Ha! We get announcements for FLETC TDYs, and I don't know if the agency only teaches certain curriculum items and the rest of them taught be permanent FLETC staff; but we get them for firearms, IFI instructors, etc. I've only wanted to go if I can teach the vehicle driving tactics course on the track or in the oil-slicked spin pad. :)

Most of the agencies have TDY instructors that augment their permanent guys and FLETC staff, FLETC staff teach Behavioral Science, Constitutional Law, Basic LE/CI stuff and some firearms and PT. Agencies handle all the agency specific stuff.

That was the next instructor course I was shooting for before we left. They don't use the slick pad anymore, its done with things that look like four little wheels sticking out all four corners of the car. The instructor controls them to lift the car wheels of the ground to cause the spinout. Cindy and I did do bus training because we were the only Immigration instructors with CDLs with bus endorsements that was always fun, especially the Puerto Rican kids from New York that just got their DL:nana2:

I'm looking outside my office window seeing families of an Air Marshall graduation. A hot platinum blonde with one of the graduates. So, FAMs get chicks it seems. Not a bad deal..

The FAMS are getting much better at blending in. I met a FAM onetime that could have passed as an NFL Offensive Lineman. You would have never guess he was a FAM in a million years.

They've come a long way from before, when many used to look like they just stepped out of a 5.11 catalog.

MIkeD are you an EVOC instructor? Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor?
Pre 9-11 I had good crab in first class over to Hawaii

It's true - I wouldn't have known one guy was a FAM until his sidearm became visible while he was getting something out of the overhead.

I used to fly with a guy that looked like your average run of the mill Hells Angel.

DOH!! Hate it when that happens

I was non-revving and that happened. The thing was his shirt got caught up on his gun so it was continuously exposed. After he sat down, I plopped down next to him. I leaned over and said "so you're a fam?" He goes, "how'd you know?!" I said "I can still see your gun sir..."

Woulda never guessed he was a FAM if it wasnt for the gun!
