That's what she said
Just wondering what the duration of the FCC license is. Does it expire after a time? Does it have to be renewed? Or do you simply pay the FCC their 50 bucks or whatever and have the license forever?

Life. Or until you lose it. I stapled mine to my logbook.
Your personal FCC Radio Operators Permit doesn't expire.
The aicraft's FCC Radio Station Licence does have an expiration date...
Do you need to have it readily accessible (i.e in your immediate possession)?
not really. If the FCC decides to ramp check you out of the US. what are the odds of that happening? zero

In Europe actually they consider that license to be as mandatory as the one you have on a JAR ticket (which you have to take a test for).
You would be in trouble in Europe though, not with the Feds here.
correct
same thing here in South America with a worst end
Do you have any idea if the FCC licence (US issued) would work in Latin America when flying on a non US license?
We are also required to have the Restricted Operator license in Argentina, but you have to go through a course, an exam and renew it every 5 years. If I could get it for 60 bucks and for life that would be awesome.
It's valid only on US airplanes, you can try to send it when you do the validation and see if they count it as valid, but I doubt it, here they don't even count the ICAO English level 4 that is on every FAA CPL license....

The aicraft's FCC Radio Station Licence does have an expiration date... Every 10 years, unless it has changed.
Are they charging now for the personal Radio Operators Permit now?
Corp Pilot, I said the same thing. TMK the personal FCC license isn't changing.

I wish I could remember for sure, but I seem to recall that they were free at one time. A friend offered to laminate mine and I asked him why I would want it laminated. He said they had started charging for the permits. As I recall, it was $4 at that time (around 1973). At the time, it seemed outrageous. Small potatoes by today's price.I just went to the FCC web site and they are now charging $60 and it is still good for life. Not much is free anymore I guess.
