FAR / AIM Trivia

Who says the FAA has no humor?

One way to get students into the books has been to play games, with prizes. So for the FAR/AIM I came up with a few "humourous entries" within the AIM, incomplete of course, but that's the point - get 'em to read it. And, no, for whoever is going to ask, this is not mandatory reading for my students... Think you can find them without using the "search" function on Google?

1. "...could be a never-to-be-forgotten nightmare if proper planning is not done and if you are not aware of the potential hazards waiting." Is written in the AIM, what nightmare are they talking about? I love that one.

2. "Kool-Aid" is actually referenced in the AIM. Under what section?

3. What is the Unexplained Phenomena Reporting Data Collection Center contacted for?

4. Operating with the transponder code "0000" in an active MOA is probably not a good idea, why?

5. Aaah sorry, got distracted. no time to finish, but you get the idea. Good luck on the above questions

The first one is in the mountain wave section, page 7-5-6 of the 2007 AIM

Ihad to look the others up.

I can shamefully say that I do not know the answers to any of those questions!

Very interesting though, I definately like your approach to teaching.

# 3 is UFO reporting...And don't forget, if you feel the aliens may cause any threat to life, person or property call your local police department!

:D:D

My bad - I wasn't looking at the actual list at the time....however, there is a txpndr code for blowing stuff up :)

I can't resist the Kool-Aid one. It one of a number of examples of things that aparantly have been used to add contrast to the ground in case of off-airport white-out landings. AIM 7-5-13.g.

funny the kool-aid came up. it is also a very popular term for Scuba divers who take on a specialized mindset of DIR or Doing It Right. as in, I have been drinking the koolaid...

now, when tuning 0000 do you really want to think to yourself 'well google said...'.
